hotty toddy
by: out of stateI want to ask all of the out of side students how difficult it is traveling to and from the Memphis Airport. I am struggling a lot because my parents want me to go to orientation by myself, which I am fine with, but how does everyone get around?

It's not easy getting from the airport to Oxford without ground transportation. You can't rent a car unless you are 25 years old so most students don't have that choice. You can call a taxi service from Oxford to come out and pick you up, but that is going to cost you $100 each way. There might be a bus, but if I remember correctly that costs about $100 each way as well. There are no shuttle services.
Also, just about every student has there parents there. Personally, I don't think I would have been a Able to survive orientation without them. I would have been totally lost!
If you have no choice, perhaps you can post something on your classes Facebook page to see if someone else will be arriving in Memphis at the same time and can give you a ride.

It's not a long drive. Maybe 1 hour give or take 15 mins. I'm from far out of state so whenever I fly in my parents get a personal driver to pick me up at the airport and take me to school. Also I do the same going from Oxford to the airport. It's not much more expensive than a cab down

I would HIGHLY recommend having your parents go to orientation with you. There are a lot of things you do together and separately. If they can't go because of work or something, ask just one of them to go or an older sibling or family member. You learn a lot during orientation and it's pretty imperative you have someone there with you.

I drove 12 hours down to ole miss for the first time ever for orientation by myself. you will be fine and you will have more fun in oxford than most of the other kids who are staying with their parents. just make sure you sign up for classes and a meal plan and check out the dorms.

I just read online there was a shuttle service on the ole miss website. It is a 15 person van.
