If my facebook is set on private when the girls find it, is that bad? Im really really uncomfortable taking it off private. I don't care if they add me and wanna see my stuff but i just hate that some random person in Thailand could see my posts.

Probably not, but you are missing out on opportunities to market yourself. We will likely just pass you by, especially if we have no mutual friends.

You NEED to make some things visible. Hometown or where you went to high school and some profile pics and cover photos. These are so important. Also make your friends visible to others.

I would make some of your profile public. We totally get security. Really. We won't say no to a girl because her profile is private but it's just better when we can look at your profile. If you're really that uncomfortable, don't do it but it's only for a few months.
And some sororities don't allow you to friend PNMs. I wouldn't count on that to help you out
