bad recs
by: recsHow often do y'all get bad recs? What if y'all love the girl but the rec writer said she doesn't endorse her? If she doesn't endorse her, what is the point in wasting time to right the rec?

In my sorority, if a girl received a negative rec, she will not be invited back past the first round, no matter how much we love her. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does happen, there is no way she will get in.
Often times girls are so concerned with finding ladies to write their recs that they don't consider the very real reality that the Rec writer may not like them.

It is mean, but it happens all the time.
Sometimes it is hard for an alumni to say no. They would rather send a negative rec than tell the poor girl no.
I had a friend in high school who's mom was president of her sororities chapter. Lots of girls asked her for a Rec., even the girls who had been mean to her daughter. Guess what, those mean girls got negative recs! It was more a warning to the sorority. "Don't take this girl, she is not nice".
I can't tell you how many times I have heard an alumni say "she will NEVER receive a bid to MY house!"

Would a bad rec also be where they checked "information only" or where they don't know you?

A rec with the info only box checked won't hurt you. It won't help you, but it will allow the sorority to give you a bid it they vote you in.

so what if the writer said they do not know them but does through a reliable source? Is that still bad?
I just think that is so cruel to do that to a PNM. If you don't like her, then say no to writing the letter. That is too much energy to write a rec letter for someone you do not endorse
