knowing your rec writers

by: PNM

Hello everyone!

I just want to clear up something really fast.
It is to my understanding that knowing your rec writers is better than not for obvious reason. However, PNM's have also been told to get rec writers that went to Ole Miss. Is it better to know your rec writer or that they went to Ole Miss.

I know I can hunt down an Ole Miss grad somewhere in the midwest, but with that being said, I probably can't meet them personally.

Thanks for taking the time to help me! Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

A rec is a form letter. A letter of support is a hand written letter on personal stationary.

It is far better to get your rec from an ole miss alum than someone who is not from ole miss. If it will make you feel better, get two recs, one from an ole miss alum and one who knows you better.

The letters of support are far more personal and should come from someone who knows you well.

Top tier is not for everyone, if you don't hunt down those chapter alumni, then no tears on bid day! We don't want you coming back on here telling is how mean girls were to you when you didn't put forth the effort to try to find recs and connections.

Hunt down those recs! You never know when you might meet someone who can introduce you to actives in the house'.

Oh I would never call the top tiers mean for dropping me. I am from the Midwest and I have a decent understand about rush at Ole Miss. It is important for girls to know how important

Sorry I hit enter too soon.

But it is important for girls to know how important connections are here. Even more so at other BIG 10 schools around me.

My question to you is for the top 6 houses, I plan to send in my rush packet at the end of May.
1)Is that too late?
2) Let's say in July, I meet an Ole Miss Alumni to write my letter of rec or I come across online, etc. Can I still send in my letter to that sorority or no bc I already send in my rush packet?

Try to get your rush packets in before we leave for the summer! Like in the next few weeks!

Here's the deal. I have no idea where you are from. But, let's pretend you are from Texas. Once our rush team receives your rush packet, and you fit all the criteria we are looking for, the rush team will pass you off to a group of girls from Texas (or where ever you are from). Those girls will be responsible for getting to know you. We will literally stalk you! If we have mutual friends, we will ask them about you! Social media will be really important over the summer so keep it clean, cute and fresh! We will try our hardest to get to know you. Even if it is just through your social media.

If you wait until we leave for the summer, you risk us not having the chance to get to know you.

For the record, I already know a ton of girls coming from my hometown. I will be rushing them all summer, and, no, I'm not from Mississippi or Any state that boarders Mississippi.

So you are only interested in the "top" 6 houses? Good luck with that. No interest in even looking at the other 5 chapters? So rude to dismiss nearly half of the chapters at Ole Miss. You will get what you deserve. You might need to seriously consider if being a member of one of those "not top 6" chapters is better than having no home at all.

Man! You need to get over yourself, bottom tier! She didn't say that she wouldn't accept a bid to a bottom tier house! Just that she understood the importance if connections in the top six.

Bottom 4 sororities take the leftovers. Those with no connections will end up in bottom sororities. Rec letters from non-Mississippi alumni will do just fine for those!

I will take a bid from any house that will take a chance on me. I have just been told my several girls when I visited Ole Miss, that is the way it was for the top 6 houses.

sorry for the confusion.

So I'm still a little confused. My understanding is the following is perfectly ok:
2 recs (one from ole miss alum and another from someone who went else where...both of whom you don't know personally)
1 letter of support from someone who knows you personally
And what's the difference between the two in how they're suppose to be written? Like is there a form to fill out for a letter of support?

Or should I make one of my recs from someone I know personally?

Okay, so I talked to the office of greek affairs today and this is what they told me.
You're rec writers DO NOT have to be an Ole Miss Alum. However, through research I have done, it seems the houses give you more "points" if it is from a chapter alumni. What I am going to do is get letters from my local alumnae chapters. It was recommended to me that you call the big university around you (their office of greek life), and explain your situation, and see if they can help you get in touch with local alumnae chapter.

From this website, it seems the letter of support is from someone who knows you personally and is more informal.

The rec is more formal.

You should try to shoot to get these letters from people you know(or meet) because it will look better than some generic rec letter. Have your resume ready for the people who writer your letters, as well as a large stamped envelope that is addressed with a thank you note to your writer.

I am going to try to get one ole miss alum and one rec writer that knows me for each house and then a few letters of support!

Best of luck to you!!!
