soroity dues
by: StubbornRebelHi Yall so I'm planning on rushing next year when I come to ole miss, my parents said they would pay but I feel like I should be responsible for the dues of my chapter, can anyone give me an estimate on how much money I should have saved? I've got quite a lot right saved right now. Thanks! And please please please don't tell me that I'm not rich enough to rush, this is a personal descion that I have made in over to get control of my own life. Thanks again!

Apparently at the Greek Life Office (never heard of that before though) you can get a sheet with all of the sorority dues. I would save about $4,000 per year. I would say that would be a pretty fair estimate of all houses dues and then plus t-shirts, gifts or stuff for swaps.

Right now adpi's dues are really cheap (just a few hundred dollars) but those will be going up a LOT when their house is finished. Phi Mu is pretty cheap too, between $1,000 and $1,500 if I remember correctly from rush. Most of the other sororities fall between $2,000 and $2,500 for all of your new member fees but I'm pretty sure that Tri Delt and Kappa are both pretty expensive, upwards of $3,000 a semester. Your dues will probably go down a little bit sophomore year when you're initiated and a lot of sororities have payment plans too, so you can pay monthly or even yearly if you want to.
Some factors that go into this are national fees (especially for new members), food, and the house. So if a sorority has a really big house (tri delt) or has gotten a new addition recently (chi o) that could bump up the dues because it requires more maintenance and may still need to be paid off.

Greek life will tell you what dues are, but you still have to pay new member fees, parlor fees, initiation fees, meals, etc. on top of all this would be tshirts, big/little gifts, and you will spend a small fortune in swap costumes and date night dresses.
I recommend you rely on mom and dad for a while longer.

A good budget. The most expensive house is like $2,600 as far as I know, but you want some wiggle room because when you get your bid you shop everything that has to do with your sorority.
