hs mistake

by: Rushingatolemiss

Can a big mistake in high school screw you over for rush? Even if it was a few years ago? Even if you have great rec letters and good test scores/GPA?

It depends, what happened?

Actually yes if we find out about it and it was big enough. We understand that we are all human and make mistakes, but our reputations are important and we don't want somebody who could potentially bring us down. Top tier especially. Those girls are under the microscope all the time and one good scandal will be remembered for years.

Trust me if we know about it no matter how far back you are gone!

You can't change the past but can have a great outlook for the future. Do not bring it up on this site. This is a public site and you can't remove the posts later. If you need advice, talk to your recruitment counselor.

...is the best advice...but if you have great rec letters from active OM alums then perhaps its not as bad as you think...nothing gets by that gauntlet...

It could. Depends on what it is and whether houses find out.The latter depends on a number of sub-factors and there's no point in trying to speculate about it unless you know for sure that people at Ole Miss know what this mistake was.

As well-intentioned as "Trying to help" probably is, DO NOT, under any circumstances, post about what actually happened on the internet.

I wouldn't talk about it with anyone other than your recruitment counselor, and whether I would recommend doing that really depends on the nature of this mistake and how likely it is that people would know about this mistake in the first place.

Best of luck with recruitment. Like any PNM, all you can really do at this point is put your best foot forward, hope for the best, and maximize any and all options that are offered to you.

There are so many factors to take into consideration. Are you coming from Jackson where everybody knows you and your reputation, or are you coming from OOS where nobody knows you? This is one of those times when being from a high recruiting area will hurt more than help you.

That's exactly what I was thinking! :)
