conflicting info
by: pnmAlright so I’m genuinely curious about something. People on here say that a lot of the oos / unconnected girls who come here think that good grades / involvement / looks will get them into a top / mid house but it doesn’t. So that would mean these oos / unconnected girls with great grades are joining “bottom houses”. But then a recent post says that bottom houses have a low GPA. So are unconnected girls actually getting into top / mid houses?

Most of the OOS unconnected girls with high GPAs end up in the middle tiers. There are OOS girls in the top tiers but they tend to have connections/legacies. Top tiers will take lower GPAs but they tend to be VERY well connected. Middle tiers can also be choosy and tend to look toward those high GPA OOS,but will take a lower GPA with a really good resume. We do have a couple of sororities that do end up with the lower GPAs.
#2by: Its about connections
I was valedictorian of my large high school in a city in the SEC. I also had a 35 ACT score. Full ride to ole miss. Cheered in high school, class officer, many volunteer hours and placed in a beauty pagent. I had no connections and knew no one at ole miss. I ended up with a bottom tier house. I’d say it is about the connections not your resume. Your resume has to be good enough but stellar doesn’t help with out connections. I’m happy in my house and found i wasn’t one of a kind. Many girls like me were there with no connections. But yes there were also some girls who were grade risk. But every house has them.

So if I im unconnected, have a 3.8 gpa, a bunch of academic honors / awards, in two major extracurriculars, have volunteered a lot, and am below average in the looks department, should I be able to get into middle tier? i don’t really care about tiers tbh but i’m just wondering. i don’t want to be somewhere that doesn’t prioritize grades.
