chances

by: New pnm

Hi! I really want to know ( honestly ) what my chances are! I’m an incoming freshman with a 3.2 and a not so desirable act score. Should I rush or even bother? How much weight is given to the act? I’ve registered but seriously considering withdrawing if my chances are nil- thanks!

Yeah, your act score is a critical factor for all the sororities who might consider you for membership. In fact, act scores are discussed forever during membership selection.....

It’ll be a problem for top tier houses but those are crazy hard to get anyways. I’d rush, you’d almost certainly get a bid at a lower house unless you’re just rude during rush. And honestly there’s not really a difference there’s awesome girls in every house.

You won't know unless you go through rush so I encourage you to do so. Your best options likely will be with lower-tier houses which is fine - great girls everywhere. We all are after being part of a sisterhood and the only different truly is that we wear different letters. I hope you will give it a shot and keep an open mind during rush.

Thanks for the replies! I came from a difficult prep school and had and took difficult classes. At my school the average act score was a 28. Maybe I’m overthinking but my score is close to the national average. I’m just not a great standardized test taker and never have been. Is there a certain score that is a deal breaker- for lower tier houses? Will they look at the whole package?
Again- thanks for the feedback!

I’m in a lower tier house. We won’t cut you for grades unless you’re under a 2.9 and if your act is national average it won’t make a difference. As long as you’re friendly during recruitment and show interest you’re almost guaranteed a bid.

I had a 3.25 and not the best ACT score either and I’m in a lower top/upper mid house (granted I’m a legacy, but they do cut legacies). you’ll be fine. please rush!!!

a 3.2 will be fine, I'm not saying you'll breeze through recruitment but aside from a few houses it won't be a main factor to if you get cut or not

Unless it is horrible, I don’t think ACT scores matter very much. We put a lot more weight on GPA. With a 3.2 you should be okay. It won’t help you, but it is an acceptable GPA. As long as you impress houses in other ways too it’ll be fine.

You'll be fine! I had a 3.2 and got in a highly sought after house. Pro tip: think about how many girls are rushing, do you honestly think people have time to search through everyone's act score? Gpa matters but yours is perfectly fine. When you hear crazy rumors stop and think if it sounds rational. Only a select group gets to go through resumes and applications. We don't have the time to dig through everyone's.

Y’all they don’t even have an option to look at ACT scores...if you got in to Ole Miss with it I’m sure you’re fine. Your gpa is what matters and with that gpa you won’t be counted out of majority of houses. They will cut for other things, like oos involvement and connections and having no refs.

The GPA is more important. No one really looks at the ACT score.
