how many don’t get a bid?

by: PNM

How many girls don’t wind up with a house? What is the reason someone would not have a sorority choose them? I have all my recs in, but some say that some sororities don’t even look at them and the top houses already have their girls chosen. Can someone give me the “inside scoop?”

You’ll most likely get a bid as long as you turn in rec letter, aren’t rude, and have decent grades. Very few people will get top houses without connections in them. I definitely wouldn’t stress. Go in with an open mind and see what you like and be realistic with who you like and keep. Every sorority has a lot of good in it. You can find a home and sisters you’ll love in all of them, don’t worry.

NO ONE does. not very few.

in generally almost everyone gets a bid. the ones that don't, there is a reason for it. red flags are things like grades or blacklist (which is very rare), basically you have to have actives know you and go out of their way to say omg I know jane doe from high school, trust me you don't want her blah blah.

most of the people that don't end up getting a bid...they don't get a bid because they quit rush. very few go through rush and don't get a bid.

top houses - legacy based. ole miss legacy. you being a legacy from some school in north carlonia isn't going to help you. aside from legacy they will pick a few girls that they know very well. there are some top houses with 10+ girls from the same high school. the non-legacy picks will be a girl that these 10+ actives know, grew up together, their family are friends, etc.

mid tier - mostly look at your app, get to know you. they try to pick the best girls.

bottom tier - generally speaking they usually accept everyone. unless it's a huge red flag (read above paragraph) or basically if you don't seem to care about their house one bit, then they might not. bottom tiers are trying to meet quota and rarely say no.

@queen you sound old. Variable Quota has changed things up quite a bit since the old days and 'bottom' tiers have been getting lots of quality girls in the past two years because of it. With a larger and better pool to choose from, these houses do NOT have to take just anyone.

Queen, she was asking for inside scoop - not advice from some ancient old loser still posting on GR.

Don't listen to Queen. While it's true that top tier houses typically already know who they will pledge, there are always one or two exceptions. Yes, it's not that common, but it can happen.

As for lower tier houses "taking anyone"? Not true. I think Queen must be a mom from decades ago with no knowledge of how things work now. They actually are getting a lot of girls who would have gone to a higher tier house if they'd gone to a school in their home state where they knew members. But because they have no connections (due to being out of state, especially out of region), they get cut from top and some mid-tier houses and land in a "lower tier". Are a few houses sometimes having a struggle meeting quota so they are more open to a variety of girls? Yes, but that doesn't mean they don't get great girls.

Variable quota also means there are more girls who would have gone top tier who have been cut from top tier so they land in mid or lower tier houses. This makes all houses stronger. Tiers don't matter anyway - all sisterhoods are pretty much the same and it's just a matter of finding the sorority that you love.

Come, enjoy Ole Miss and find your home.

It is true that there is less room in the traditionally 'top' tiers for non legacy/connected students due to Variable Quota. However common sense would tell you that only means the top resumed non legacy/Mississippi/connected and non legacy/OOS/no connections students are going to now be chosen by what was traditionally lower tiers.

Just come to Ole Miss with an open mind, get your rec letters to EVERY sorority, be willing to meet new people and DON'T discount any sorority.
