I'd not worry about top tier - I'd focus on getting to know EVERY house to see which one you like best - AND which ones invite you back. Focusing only on certain houses is a sure way to have a poor rush.
And I agree with the above poster - pledge classes for top tier houses are pretty much selected before rush based on connections. There's always a few girls who get bids into top tier who knew no-one but that's not the norm.

This question always gets the Moms all stirred up (and the Florida trolls). There is no way to know how recruitment will end up for anyone. It is true the 'top' tiers are in large number daughters/legacies of Ole Miss alumni and this is even more true with variable quota. However, it is possible for a someone to slip in.
Go in with an open mind. All the sororities here are great. If you are only interested in top tier you should probably stay in Florida and use your connections and follow your high school friends.
