3.4 at the very top is not very good and the all-Panhellenic average GPA has been slipping...what's causing that? It's happening to the fraternities too.

That doesn't mean we don't hit the books hard and put in our study hours, however there aren't a ton of Greeks in "hard" majors like physics, math, chem engineering etc. so that makes us look especially bad.

By: Hmm
by: Truth

What makes us look bad is people commenting who don't know what they are talking about.

The semester GPAs for every sorority has been increasing. The Fall 2015 Panhellenic semester average for Ole Miss was 3.14, the Fall 2017 semester average is 3.209 - that's an increase. Some of the sororities have had significant increases in their GPAs. The addition of several newer sororities over the past few years it has given a place for students with lower GPAs to participate in Greek life at Ole Miss and even those sororities are showing an increase in their GPA.

And I don't know about your sorority but mine has quite a few chemistry, biology, math and engineering students.

Seriously doubt these are Ole Miss students bashing the GPAs. The usual SEC troll is more likely. First they don't have accurate knowledge about the increase in GPAs and apparently aren't aware of the difference in calculating Grade Point Value at the different Universities.

How embarrassing for Greek life. On the ark site they posted their rankings. And no Arkansas is not an easier school. Their top houses cut pnms below a 3.4. Not sure Bama gpas but I'm sure they are even higher. Ole Miss had the lowest gpas in the SEC.
Arkansas sororities:
Top 3 houses:
ChiO 3.534
Kappa 3.532
PiPhi 3.501
BOTTOM 3 houses:
PhiMu 3.358
DG 3.328
AXO 3.2

BAMA:

top 3 houses-
axo - 3.66
chi o - 3.67
agd - 3.62 (pc got a 3.71 gpa)

bottom 3 houses-
sdt - 3.21
gphi - 3.14
aphi - 2.87 (harley barber chapter)

If you're going to troll the SEC schools you should have a basic understanding that each of the schools you mentioned use different grade point value in determining grades. University of Alabama has a A+ worth 4.33, University of Arkansas does not have decreasing point value for each grade level and Ole Miss does use a decrease point value for each grade but does not include an A+ value.

So if you had equal students at each school making the same grades with the same hours the GPA could be different, such as if each student took 15 hours and had A+ in two classes, A in two classes and 1 B the GPA would 3.932 at U of AL, and 3.8 at U of AR and a 3.8 at Ole Miss. If the students each took 15 hours and had an A+ in 2 classes and A- in 3 classes the GPAs would be 3.934 at U of AL, 4.0 at U of AR and 3.82 at Ole Miss.

It's impossible to compare school's GPAs without considering the method the Grade Point Scale in achieved.

Even using Mississippi math the overall gpa average is still much lower than other SEC schools. Sorry but you will always be below Bama.

Another Bama Troll obsessed with Ole Miss. Of course the concept that schools use different Grade Point value to calculate grades is probably too complicated for a Bama troll.

I think this is what happens when so much focus is put on connections and looks during recruitment and houses don't care about things like grades and leadership that top houses at other schools do.

I do wish grades mattered more considering the fact that if your GPA is low in high school, there is not a big chance that it will be any better in college, especially if you are thrown into greek life and all it entails. Being greek adds more to people's schedules. While a lot of sororities do have things to help you do well in school, it is just best overall if you had a really bad GPA in high school to not participate in greek life.

We need to be cutting more girls based off GPA and stop taking girls with low GPAs just because they are a legacy or they have connections.
