pnms please read

To all of the pnms out there who are getting stressed out about connections and tiers, etc, here are a few things I hope you'll consider.

1) Tiers are subjective. That means that you can walk into a mid-tier house and thing it blows everything out of the water and then go into a top tier house and think, okay, this place is fine. Houses have different personalities, go where YOU feel comfortable. Not your roommate, not your mom, not the girl down the hall who will be bragging about everybody from her great great great great grandmother to her sister all being members of the BEST sorority on campus (we all had that girl on our floor!). Ignore them. Do you.

2) If you can't shake the tier talk, consider this. Ole MIss is the best greek system in the US. We're also the most competitive. Okay, maybe bama is more competitive. But honestly, our houses just keep getting stronger and stronger. Take all of the greek women, put them in a room, remove their letters and you can't tell who is who.

3) NOBODY CARES what house you were in after you graduate. Unless you plan on going back to Jackson and joining the jr league. No insult to the Jackson Jr. League, but honestly that's the truth. When you graduate and move on, you will be getting a job, exploring a new city, meeting new people. The fact that you were a Phi Mu at Ole Miss truly means nothing. People just aren't concerned with that. And if you are reading this and still think it matters, consider that the Ole Miss sororities are all incredibly strong nationally. That means that they have alumni groups all over the country. So if you are an Alpha Phi moving to Chicago? You'll have a network of sisters, volunteer opportunities and social events through the local alumni group in Chicago. An ADPi moving to Boston will have the same thing, as will a DG going to San Francisco. That's another great thing about the Ole Miss Greek system. There really is no weak link. The idea that a house is top out west or up north but not down south...NOBODY CARES ABOUT THAT AFTER GRADUATION. Ignore anybody who says otherwise.

4) Let's be real. Ole Miss tiers are very closely tied to history on campus. Everybody on campus has hot girls and chubby girls. Everybody on campus has beauty queens and chem majors. Every house on campus has a philanthropy, has swaps and formals. So what makes a house top? Take a look at when they came to the Ole Miss campus and you'll start to see a pattern.

and 5) So at the end of the day, the best way to have a great greek experience is to go where it feels right to you. No, the houses are not all the same, like I said they all have their own personality. But the core greek experience at a place like Ole Miss is very similar.

But a surefire way to guarantee not liking greeklife is to get so tied up in tiers and what you are "supposed" to like rather than going where you feel your best. The best way to make sure you LOVE greek life? Follow your gut and your heart. Ignore everybody and everthing else.
