chance at top?
by: top
Do you have a chance at top tier if you only have a few connections, but are cute, smart, involved, well spoken, well dressed, wealthy (if that even matters)?
Also OOS but not OOR... from a super well known SEC college town, but not many from my town go to OM!

The top tiers are the top tiers because the Mississippi alumnae say they are. If you're OOS and especially OOR you'll probably feel more comfortable in what is considered the middle tiers sororities. That's where all the cute, smart, involved, well spoken, well dressed, wealthy OOS students are.

Top houses are for legacy from Ole Miss. No KD/DDD/XO(debatable if they are top) at south eastern iowa state university isn't going to help you.
That leaves very few spots left. And those go to mom's friends daughters. You know, the same private high school, they grew up together, BFFs etc.
Long story short, they won't even look at your application. It's like applying to Harvard with a 25ACT, they won't even waste their time reading the rest of your application or your essays.
I don't think Ole Miss rush is hard, you know your place. If you a legacy you are pretty much guaranteed in, if you aren't, you don't have a chance. Places like Bama, FSU, UCLA, etc sure they prefer legacies, but if you have a great app, you'll get in.

It would be ridiculous for someone from what is considered a top house to imply that it's easy for someone without connections to get into their house. It might happen but it's very unlikely. Soon enough the 'top' Moms will be on here stating they don't take unknowns, no matter how good the resume is. The better resumed OOS/OOR students are going to the 'middle' tiers and personally I think they're stronger sororities for the diversity. The only difference between the 'middle' and the 'top' tiers is that the 'middle' alumnae aren't on here daily proclaiming they're top tier.

Please don't get hung up on getting in a top house! They do take some girls who aren't legacies or well connected but it doesn't end up so great for them. Usually those legacy and well connected girls all know each other from camp and school so they have their cliques already set which leaves those who don't feeling isolated and alone. I would much rather have been in a middle tier house with a group of girls who wanted to take the time to get to know me and treat me like a sister and not some token pledge!

If you have EVERYTHING a top house is looking for except you aren't a legacy or don't have connections you can get a bid. It may be tough and there might not be very many but it does happen. This is more true for OOS girls because if you are from in state or Memphis they should already know about you. All the moms like to get on this site and talk about how exclusive their house is and would never take an OMG outsider but that is just not true. I highly doubt ChiO is filled with 100% legacies like these moms swear is the gospel truth. The real question is do you want to have a bunch of sisters that are stuck in their high school cliques who think the state of Mississippi is the beginning and end of it all or do you want sisters who know there is more to the world?

please please don’t be hung up on getting into a top house. I promise you will be so much happier going a house that you love whether it’s “top” or not. when you’re applying for a job when you’re older, I very highly doubt they will turn you down because you weren’t in a top house at ole miss. in the end it really doesn’t matter. seeing how many girls getting their hearts broken over getting dropped from top houses makes me so upset because there are so many other great houses as well! go in with an open mind, don’t go in with your heart set on one house. when you find the sorority for you, you will just know! and it’s a great feeling. good luck, happy rushing!
