who would get the bid?
by: Curious
1 bid left, who gets it? The known or the unknown?
A pnm from the northeast with no connections, but has a stellar resume, great grades and is pretty and sociable? (And has all her recs)
Or a pnm from Mississippi who is an in house legacy, good resume and good enough grades, is pretty, but has a questionable reputation?

This would never be a scenario. If there were any question about an in-house legacy, a decision would be made long before the bid lists were finalized. She would either be released before pref round, (usually earlier) or go on to be at the top of the bid list with the other legacies, so there would never be a "who would get the bid" decision as you described. A legacy is either all the way out or all the way in. Furthermore, anyone who attends the pref round is on the bid list, somewhere, for that house, but bid matching then comes into play so not everyone on a house's bid list will actually get a bid from there.

Agree with "Well" that the proposed scenario would almost never, ever happen. The one thing that could get a QR legacy into a house over a PNM with no connections is if the QR girl has a sister in the house...that's a tough scenario, but the QR will get in.
Also, it does happen sometimes that PNM's without connections - even with a stellar resume - turn out to be a risk once they pledge. I've seen it happen.

Good lord stop being so literal. She's asking who the more desirable PNM.
Answer: depends on the house. But in several houses MS will ALMOST ALWAYS wins out. Because, tradition. Because the "unknown" pnm is viewed as a risk first, asset later. And, more legitimately, because MS alums means alumnae volunteers, advisors, etc.

legacy are automatic ins.
now it's you vs yourself as far as if you get in/not.
top tier - all legacy and a few spots left for very good friends of actives, parents know alumni etc. to be honest your application won't even get looked at
mid tier - you need connections. without connections you'll be left out.
bottom tier - welcome

That's true at KD but there are houses here that are not willing to risk a known QR and would be happy to have a better qualified OOS.
