transfer student
by: NewStudentI will be transferring from a community college in fall of 2018. I would love to join a sorority and make new friends, but considering I am not a legacy, I am afraid I will not get a bid. I will be a junior. I have a 4.0 GPA and am a member of Phi Theta Kappa. How likely is it that I will not get a bid? Tiers don’t matter to me. I just want to find a home I am happy with.

Not being a legacy is not a problem, but the fact that you will be a junior makes it a bit harder, though not impossible at all. If you are open minded about all the houses then you certainly have a chance. You need to be polished and confident in how you present yourself, have a great resume (that 4.0 will look pretty good) and make sure to get your recs. Good luck.

Agree with no worries - legacies don't count for much, so no loss there. Being a junior will be your biggest challenge because sororities want girls who will be members for 4 years. Even sophomores have a hard time since they're competing with so many freshmen.
I suggest you get to know as many girls as you can - do you know anyone here now? If not, then once you're on campus. Every PNM needs actives to pull for them, even more true as an upperclassman. Also, get your resume super polished and make sure you get recs. Do you know any alums who can write them for you? If not, go find them, they're out there. And if they can introduce you to girls who are in houses now, even better. Start developing relationships, that will help a lot.
It's important to know that some houses will cut you simply because you're a junior, don't take it personally. If you accept every invitation you get, go to every party, I think you can find a home. Knowing how competitive it is here (even for freshmen) and what your odds are is important so you can be prepared. I wish you luck!
