why do people say chi o isn't desirable for many pnms

by: ?

I understand that not every sorority is for everyone, but I was just wondering why so many people say Chi O is less desirable/ gives a weird vibe for many PNMs than say DDD or KD considering they are all very well rounded groups of young women.

Well, people don't actually say that, except for DDD's and KD's and their alumnae/mammas coming on her trying to make it sound like this is actually a thing.

Amen. And no I'm not a XO or a XO mamma.

It's okay, there's enough Chi-O Moms on here trying to make it sound like it's actually not a thing.

Trust me, KD isn’t worried about XO. There’s no comparison.

A lot of pnms felt this year like they only wanted Jackson girls or rich Mississippi girls. Didn’t seem very open to OOS girls

It's really more Chi-O legacies and Jackson girls, I don't think it has anything to do with being rich or not.

Where? They damn sure are not in XO. Or anywhere in Mississippi. I hate to to tell people I am from
Mississippi. They automatically think I am stupid and poor.

Because DG has to tear someone down to try to make it look like they're top 3....

I’m not a dg. I am actually in one of the other “top” sororities (pledged fall 2017). Actually, everyone I knew had a top 3 of KD, DG, and DDD (in different orders depending on the girl). ChiO moms try to pretend ChiO is in the top 3. They are not in the top 3 in the eyes of most PNMs, and that’s ultimately what matters. They are desired by legacies and SOME Jackson girls (usually the not so cute ones as ChiO is a safety net for them since they would go lower tier if not for ChiO).

It's just like the Chi-O Moms who are on here saying 'I'm not a Chi-O Mom but Chi-O is top tier'.

I agree that XO isn't a bad group, but it was one that was "meh." I was ok with or without them. I agree with the poster above as most of my friends either wanted KD or DG. Several of my friends loved KKG as well. DDD wasnt very nice to most PNMs during rush, so that turned many of them off. Current PNMs don't care as much about history. We either want to be in groups where our friends are or groups that genuinely show an interest in us.

I went through rush knowing a few Chi O's....really great girls and I would have been fine if they had stayed on my list for sisterhood, but I was also fine that they were not. I still had favorite houses, and Chi o wasn't one of them!
This doesn't mean they aren't nice girls and I would have been fine ending up there, but I didn't shed a tear that they weren't on my schedule. Two of my friends ended up at Chi o and love it, but it wasn't their top house going into rush either.
Chi O is a great house....but desirability of Chi o is way down, its a place people would have been fine ending up in because it has great history, but it wasn't the original goal, if that makes sense.

This is the most accurate statement ever by @rush....
"ChiO is a great house....but desirability of ChiO is way down, it's a place people would have been fine ending up in because it has great history, but it wasn't the original goal"

Not a desired or sough after house, but an 'ok' place to land.

This actually reminds me a lot of KD at Alabama - first house on campus (110+ years), tons of tradition, highly desirable if you're from certain Alabama cities and suburbs. But they've really slipped in the rankings over the years because they rest too much on their reputation and they phone it in during recruitment. These days, you can't just take the attitude that you're the best just because you say you are.

Chi-O is not undesirable, however they aren't desired like they apparently once were. I thought they were nice, but honestly they're such a odd mix. They have some girls that would be top tier in any school they went to, but they also have some really, really weird girls. They don't seem to have a type other than you have to be a Ole Miss legacy or be really tight with an Ole Miss legacy. They do always seem to have a high GPA so that's something.

PNMs with high GPAs and high test scores can easily figure out their odds of getting asked back by the 3 marketed-as-the-top-tier sororities on campus. Why bother even with recommendations? OOS/OOR students love Ole Miss but, aren’t idiots.

PNMs with high GPAs and high test scores also know this to be the truth.........

ChiO is a great house....but desirability of ChiO is way down, it's a place people would have been fine ending up in because it has great history, but it wasn't the original goal.

Only ChiO legacies really want ChiO - other than that it's a no go...

chi o's are only considered good because everyone says they are. the only time you see them is in class and they take weird girls just bc they're in state legacies. everyone knows about the coffin thing and it freaks a lot of people out lol

by: That coffin thing...

Ok, that coffin thing totally freaks me out!! I love my ChiO friends at Ole Miss and other schools, but as a chapter on our campus, they are not sought after as a whole and are quickly slipping in the ranks.

It is the hardest one to get in. You have to have grades, good reputation, and good family.

by: ?

Hardest to get into according to whom? It may be considered hard for the people who actually want XO, but who would that be aside from legacies and a few awkward people?

The Chi-O Moms really need a new comeback other than "You must have got cut" because there aren't too many people crying over getting cut by Chi-O.
