where would i fit?
by: question
I know people will tell me to go through rush and see for myself, but I think its interesting to hear a few opinions!
-From Alabama
-4.2 GPA, 33 ACT
-Involved in sports and school clubs
-Social, but not an "it girl"
-From an upper middle class family
-Know a few girls in old row sororities, but not super well at all
-I carry conversation/present myself well (if that even matters)

1. very few alabama girls here. like very very few. alabama is always a bama/auburn only state, they rarely leave unless it's the very few that can get into really good ivy league schools.
2. with that gpa/act i am guessing honors college. not too many people in the honors college rush. but they are spread out. a lot of chio, aoii, phimu have honors college girls. but mostly mid tier sororitys.
3. without being a legacy or being from a well known high school with legacy, you don't have a shot at any top tier sororitys. and knowing a few girls not very well might not even get you into a mid tier.
4. no house is full of it girls, so that doesn't help. and most sororitys are are upper middle class, so that doesn't help either.
my guess is aoii or phi pi.

Given what you've written, you could fit into any house. The exception to your rush is that if you truly have no connections (and "knowing a few girls but not well" in top tier likely won't help since that's not a strong enough connection to make a difference given how competitive rush is here) in the top tier houses, you likely will be cut after first round.
I suggest you not ask this question since people's suggestions can color your opinion before you even get to campus which can hurt your chances; there's already enough positive/negative tier and house perceptions that make rush harder than it should be. I'd also not give out so much info on here. And one last thing to know (which I'm guessing you don't given wha you wrote) - we don't call houses at Ole Miss "old row" and "new row". That's a Bama thing.

AOII has a repuation for taking HOCO girls, but a lot of those girls who really care about their grades go early alum or drop.
Theta takes a lot of OOS girls, but they’re split 50/50 between girls who really care about their grades and girls who don’t care at all.
I’d start following girls on Instagram and getting to know actives from both to see where you might fit in. There’s a lot of hate for Theta on here but there’s not much difference between them and AOII in my opinion.

I’m an honors student and at least 60% of honors students are involved in Greek life and I know of honors students in ever sorority! Girls just like you have rushed (hello from a Alabama girl at Ole Miss!!) and found a place in a house! You will do just fine :)
