i love ole miss
by: NorthI'm from the northeast. My connection to ole miss is that my dad went there - as did basically all of my aunts, uncles and cousins. They were greek and I think a few of my aunts are still really involved? They told me to send them my resume and pictures. They also told me to start getting recs now. Anyway I've always wanted to go to ole miss. I love the South, it is so different from where I'm from. But I love it. But I do wonder if I will have a chance at Greek life. From what I read here it seems like the family connections will be enough to take me to a certain point but then I don't want to wind up with nothing because they arent enough to take me all the way, does that make sense? I don't know any actives yet and everybody here says it is all about connections. I dont know what I'm asking really, but just if having connections like that really works? Will other houses drop me because of it? Everybody was in one of two sororities. I want to be Greek. I don't have to be KD or dg. I don't know where else to ask this question. If I ask one of my aunts they gush about their house which is great because they clearly love it but they dont really answer me.

welcome.
first thing first, do you have the grades? sorry, but you have very poor grammar.
second, your "aunts" are useless. legacy here means your mom went here, and to a lesser extent a sister/grandma. your aunt/cousin doesn't mean anything here.
third, connections help, but it's 80% legacy, 20% connections IMO. connections help very little.
fourth, if you are trying to get into any house, you won't have any problems. Most everyone gets in. As for the few that don't, there is a reason...either they did something to get themselves back listed or they just didn't care (dress sloppy, roll eyes during convo, etc.).
fifth, be realistic. you'll end up in a bottom tier. if lucky, a mid tier.\n\n\n\n\nThe biggest question is...should you even come here? Some out of state girls are happy here, but the majority aren't. Yes, game days are great and the people are nice during your visit, but once you come here you'll find out they will exclude you or look down on you.\n\n\n\n\n

OOS students make up 40% if not more of the students here. Soon It will be 50 % OOS. Don’t let these old biddies scare you. They can see the writing on the wall and are trying to scare away OOS students.Come to Ole Miss you will find you have more in common than not. It’s obvious your family loved it here and so will you.

If you have good grades (houses do/can cut on grades), get your recs in, show interest in every house, etc.- you will have a chance to find a home. Plenty of OOS girls find a place they love, but you have to put the effort in.
From my experience I don't think family connections really matter anymore unless someone knows actives in a house and those girls look out for you or if you have a relative who's in the chapter now. Even legacies don't count like they used to (aunts and cousins who were in sororities do not make you a legacy as some people think). And this doesn't mean you won't have a shot at a house you love - you will. Connections do matter for the top tier houses, with rare exceptions. The good news is that there are great girls in every house so if you don't know anyone in the top tier, don't worry, all the houses here have a lot to offer.
You have family from here, they loved Ole Miss, there's no reason why you might not love it. You'll never know if you don't come here and if you wind up not loving it, then you'll find somewhere else. Sometimes OOS girls don't like it (for many reasons, including being homesick which has nothing to do with OM), but then sometimes Mississippi students don't like it - that's life!

I agree with everything you said, except the part about using phones. Using your phone is not an excuse for bad grammar.
As to your main point, I'm far OOS, mid-tier sorority, and have never once regretting going here, so I'm with you there.
