Maybe because the Madison girls liked Alpha Phi and Alpha Phi liked the Madison girls? There were quite a few folks enjoying Alpha phi's rush from day one, so good for Alpha Phi. (And because I know some idiot will accuse me of being and Alpha Phi because I didn't post negatively about them, let me assure you I belong to some other sorority.) Quit with the nasty posts, y'all - you make everyone look bad with that mean girl 'tude.

Lot of people liked Alpha Phi during rush. Seem to be getting a lot of recognition.

Y'all are underestimating Alpha Phi as a national organization, not necessarily just the Ole Miss chapter, but definitely the sorority as a whole. They are THE California sorority and strong all over the Midwest and East Coast, but have no southern presence, so when they started opening all these chapters in the South and Texas I thought they would be out of their league and fail miserably everywhere.

But they invest millions and millions into gorgeous houses, they are way more selective than other colonies, focus on pretty and outgoing girls rather than the bookworm/accomplishment types colonies often take, because they know those girls will recruit well.

They listen closely to the traditions at each school and make sure Alpha Phi matches those traditions perfectly, rather than doing what works in California or their other chapters.

The knock is that if they are bidding pretty/rich/outgoing girls that didn't already join a sorority, that there are more grade risks and questionable behavior than other sororities, and so retention may be harder for them. But truth be told is that unless you're connected in the school and destined for top tier anyway, all you see as a PNM at any of these schools is that they are pretty and fun, and so when you're cut by the truly elite groups and left with the middle tiers, many will default to the really pretty/fun chapter when all is said and done.

Will they ever be top tier at any of these southern schools? No, because they don't have the legacies, and won't for decades. But they are doing far better than they should at all our schools, especially for a bunch of California/East Coast national leaders. Their nationals seems to understand what works rather than all the other nationals who push for "campus leaders" in their colonies that can't recruit, and provide substandard houses (if a house at all).
