drop and rush again

by: trip

So if I get a bid from my second choice and decide that it just isn't for me can i rush as a sophomore next fall? Will my choice to drop this fall affect my chances during rush next fall, like will it reflect poorly on me?

While that may seem like a reasonable backup plan, I have to tell you that it's not that likely to have a successful rush as a sophomore.

First of all, there are far fewer spots for sophomore members of a pledge class (sometimes 1 or 2 spots per class if the sorority has lost a member or two) so the competition is much tougher.

Secondly, most chapter have a policy that once a PNM is cut, she is cut for good, whether for 2017 or 2018.

I wish I could tell you that you will get everything you want, but that is not how recruitment works for many PNMs. The truth is that most PNMs grow to love their chapters if they give them a chance. You have only met a smattering of girls at each sorority at this point and each house has hundreds of women. If you get a bid, take it and run!

I speak from experience having gone through rush my sophomore year. That said, I hope you get your first choice. If not, you have nothing to lose by showing up on bid day and giving the other house a shot. You're committed to them for a year anyway if you signed your bid card. I wish I could give you a hug or a pat on the back. Everything will work out okay. I am cheering for you.

Not much of a chance as a sophomore at all. Freshman class is too big and if you were cut from houses this year they won't want you next year. Take the bid. If you don't like it don't initiate.

Honestly there is no way that any sorority on this campus is "not for you". All the sororities are big, so big that there will be people that you can identify with in it. I got my second choice and I was a little concerned at first, but I gave it a chance and I love it. I can't imagine being anywhere else. If you drop you will more than likely remove yourself from the only chance you have of being a part of Greek Life at Ole Miss.
