how many girls actually drop?

by: happy to be here

I'm from the north and loving my time here so far. I am rushing and to be honest I'll be happy to get a bid ANYWHERE. Kind have been looking through some of this site....I know it says not to, but I am mostly just doing it because I'm really excited :)

Anyways, I am sure some girls drop after not getting into a house they want. I am sure it was common in the 60s, 70s, 80s, but is it still common now? Just wondering like do 2-3 girls drop, or is it 20? 50? 100? 250?

It's more common among the Mississippi girls - some of them only come here for a certain sorority. OOS students tend to come here for the school and/or a specific program and joining a sorority is just something to do for fun and meeting people. Last year there was roughly a difference of 100 girls who signed up for recruitment and who showed up for bid day, however that would also included girls who did not receive a bid invitation.

Hey, I was asking like drop as in actually transfer out of Ole Miss all together, not the ones who don't get bids or change their minds and don't rush any more

It is not nearly as common as it used to be back when rush was at the very beginning of the semester like just about every other school's is. Girls who didn't like how their rush ended would drop right out of school, and their daddies would drive up with the trucks or u-hauls or whatever and move them out of the dorms as soon as rush was over. My older cousin who was here in 2011 lost her roommate that way; came to her dorm one afternoon after class and found the parking lot full of this mass moveout going on, and her roommate was all moved out and headed back home to podunk Mississippi. Rush was changed to further into the semester to help prevent this migration. This is such a sad attitude and really shameful for Mississippi.

Mainly MS girls drop. Remember ladies that people have cell phones and news travels fast. All the freshman girls that were partying these first few weeks.

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Dropping out of college because you didn't get the sorority you wanted!!! Pathetic. I can believe a girls parents would be ok with that. Mine would tell me to suck it up study hard and graduate.

I have nothing against any sorority, or Ole Miss-I chose to come here from OOS. But I was shocked to find out the reason we have recruitment at such an odd time, was to stop little Mississippi girls from leaving college bc they didn't get THE sorority!!!

the girls that drop aren't quitting school to work on a farm lol they usually end up at another school or a local community college. for some majors yes ole miss is better than a community college, but the fact is for most majors it doesn't matter if you go here or a community college, which is cheaper and has some other perks. Being in a certain house was one of their main reasons for joining and if they can't get that then they just go local and save some money and so on

but what i don't understand is why our enrollment has dropped by almost 500 just because our football team sucks. I mean, I get it, it's a totally different feeling when the team is doing well vs. when they aren't. But, serious, what does the team doing good have any thing to do with you? Heck, the football players don't even care how the team is doing, they just hope they are doing good themselves and they go pro

To @inallfairness

I don't think enrollment drop is related to football. More likely related to the tuition increase for both in-state and OOS students. That was put in place by the State of Miss.

tuition is up every where. trust me someone isn't going to not go to college over a $500

actually Miss State had the biggest incoming come this year

Souther Miss increased theirs too

so not buying the increased tuition theory

i don't think it's football related

just the traditional southerns think the place has gotten liberal, and the liberals don't want to deal with us any where lol

To @Reb

True about State and Southern. And they have fewer OOS students overall. OM OOS freshmen enrollment dropped this fall. Still more OOS freshmen than Miss, but not as much. Maybe that's part of the drop.

Last year was the first recruitment with variable quota at State. So many PNMs withdrew/transferred before classes started that the administration considered moving recruitment to the first week of school.
