top sorority

by: Truthful

If you get the opportunity to pledge a top sorority (KD, Tri Delt, Chi O, DG or Phi Mu) you should totally take it! You can only convince yourself for so long that one of the lower tiered ones are just as good. Not to be mean, but top ones open doors later in life! If you are fortunate enough to be a legacy to one of the tops, take take that bid../you will be thankful you did!

You're living in a dream world if you think your Sorority is going to open doors for you. Maybe if you stay in Jackson Mississippi (somebody shoot me if that happens to me), but as an OOS student it's not going to make a difference in the field I will pursue. Plus, if you are planning to be involved with an alumni group you are going to possibly be an alum with people from all over the country and some of those women will come from schools where your 'top' tier was a 'bottom' tier at their school. I am in a Middle Tier and I will probably end up working in Washington D.C. after graduation and I can promise you that being a member of XYZ sorority at Ole Miss isn't going to help or hurt me.

This is more than likely one of those DG Moms. For some reason DG has some crazy Moms who just can't stay off this site. Their next round of bashing will be the "Sorority Row is where everyone wants to be" and "OMG! Everyone wants to be run to Sorority Row!" Just ignore it, they won't stop but hopefully we are smarter than those crazy 80's Moms.

If it was a DG mom don't you think she would have listed DG as a top house. Not too bright with your comments.

OP did list DG has a top house - which is what gave it away.

Let's get real here, anybody who says it doesn't matter about getting into a top tier sorority, didn't get into a top tier sorority.

by: BYH

Let's get really real....being in a top tier Ole Miss sorority would be great and most would be happy.

But unless you stay in Mississippi, one sorority will not open any more doors than any other sorority. Period. And every OOS girl knows it.

Here ya go PNMs, if you want a continuation of your beloved High School Mean Girls join a top tier. If you want to join a College Sorority look for the Middle or Lower tier sororitys.

Top tiered sororities? I don't know where this is all coming from but a lot of it seems to be pre rush rumor. I did meet a lot of people job hunting that went to Ole Miss but being in a "top tier" sorority did not have much to do with getting a job or having a career.
Your major has more importance than anything on career. Your grades that you keep up to graduate have more to do than what sorority you were in. I can sense there is a lot of stress going on at the Ole Miss campus. Relax! So much of what I'm reading on these pages is rumor. There were rumors when I rushed in 1989, but they were nothing but a source of stress. As soon as rush is over, those rumors will still be rumors.
This is for the girls. You will drive yourself nuts with these questions that may not ever have an answer. Your job is to HAVE FUN, get to know as many girls as you can, have good conversation, and dress appropriately for each day. SMILE!!!
I'm saying this because you will worry yourself sick. I've never heard of some of these things that are being said.
Most of what you need to know has been told to you if you are rushing. Do not worry about recs and how much they count, and etc. etc. Do not engage in getting yourself unnecessarily upset over things that may not even be true! Please have fun and take a deep breathe and RELAX! :)

"top ones open doors later in life!"

listen to this.

Do you know how many ole miss sigma nus, Eli Manning got into the NFL? LOLLLLLLLLLLL

being in a top sorority/frat at ole miss will open absolutely ZERO doors. even top law firms in mississippi, if you look at their lawyers, they are all Mississippi grads (ole miss, southern, state, miss college, etc.). Why? because any thing in mississippi is crap. Even if your sigma nu, if the main guy at the law firm is a sigma nu, if some vandy law school grad applied, guess what? bye bye
that vandy kid will bring in a lot more money to the law firm than any sigma nu kid

There is a certain prestige in saying you were/are an Ole Miss ..... (Fill in the blank)
It may not open doors career wise but it definitely helps to establish who you were/are.

Only if you stay in Miss or Memohis or somewhere like that. Lots of peoplei invother parts of the country don't really care and even if they do, what's good at one school could be poor or even folded at another.

I know a few Tri Delts who've started careers in places like NYC end they don't even mention being in a sorority because most people outside the Deep South don't care and sometimes have a low opinion of Greeks. They care about your work skills, work ethic and personality. Anf that has nothing to do with what house you were in.

And there are plenty of places where a house that's strong here - like Tri Delt or KD - is a struggling or is a weak chapter so it doesn't make a difference. I know of a Tri Delt chapter in another region thst not only never meets quota but was closed and re-colonized and still doesn't make quota so I'm not sure that telling people there that you were a Tri Delt would impress them.

that is not true.
many people from ole miss move to Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, etc. and the number of alum in those areas are growing.

So yes "There is a certain prestige in saying you were/are an Ole Miss ..... (Fill in the blank)
It may not open doors career wise but it definitely helps to establish who you were/are." IS 100% CORRECT.

If you move to Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, etc, I can promise you the people you meet will be as proud of their own sororitys as you are of yours. They aren't going to care if your XYZ sorority was a top tier at Ole Miss or not. In your bigger cities the alum groups will be made up of people from all over the place and some will be from schools where the sorority was a top tier and others from schools where it was a bottom tier - and guess what? no one will care. Y'all have been living in a bubble for so long you don't even realize there is a bigger world out there and those people DO NOT care what sorority you were in at Ole Miss.

Ponder this for a moment...Years later after you graduate from Ole Miss you return to The Grove for a game. Will you be proud to say I am a (fill in the blank) I guarantee it does and it will matter. KD, Tri Delt, Chi O, DG and Phi Mu will still be the top sororities. It may not matter elsewhere, but while you are here it does matter and it will always be something you can be proud of being a part of in the years to come

OMG! I missed the question about sorority affiliation on my master's, doctorate (and beyond) applications. How did I not see that? My degrees, certifications, and career achievements now feel totally hollow without my sorority's stamp...........said no one EVER.
