Let's find @Just for Fun aka Statistics Girl because she made the most informative interesting post based on statistics. Super cool to read.

I'd love to see some new numbers and information!

Although, we should all realize getting chosen by a sorority and choosing a sorority is not a mathematical equation it's a matter of the heart!

Actually it is waaaaay more of a mathematical equation than it will ever be "of the heart"- the ones that think it is more "of the heart" are usually the ones that are either bitterly disappointed with their results or drop out mid-week when the houses they are "in love with" drop them.

Rush is a numbers game plain and simple...

It's a numbers game for the sororities.

It's personal for the PNM. They don't get that it's pure stats until they are on the other side of the process, and even then it can hurt.

Also PNMs think they are choosing when it's actually the sororities that choose.

I really, really wish someone had explained this to me before recruitment. I was heartbroken because it never occurred to me that cuts were much more about numbers than a couple of friends' opinions of me. I was crushed when top houses, where I had friends, cut me, but other girls had amazing connections with, let's say, ten girls while I had one friend pulling for me.

By the way, I stayed friends with those girls in top houses and attended some events with them at their house. Not a huge hell of a difference between their experience and mine. Very eyeopening.
I'm not suggesting that you intentionally avoid a top house but just that if you don't end up where you dreamed, please remember that you aren't necessarily missing out on a totally different experience.

It's a all based on an algorithm developed by an Alpha Phi from MIT. The RFM program is designed to create the best opportunity for pnm's to be matched and chapters to meet Quota. Release figures are based on return averages from the previous 3 years of data. Completely a numbers game in terms of the process, but as mentioned, not for the pnm...it's emotional.

For all the girls rushing at Ole Miss this year

I am an alum of what is considered to be a "top" sorority at Ole Miss. I thought it was tough 30 years ago, but the student population has changed and more girls are rushing. Have fun while you are going through the days next week and be at your best. Smile!! I just read above about not getting into the house you really wanted. That's ok. I didn't get my first choice, but it turned out for the best.
I'm not sure if girls are still leaving UoM if they don't get the bid they want or don't get a bid at all. Please don't do that. If you get a bid, get to know the girls. Don't not accept a bid because it might not be "the best". The best is what you make of it. If you don't receive a bid, please don't leave. There are so many things going on at Ole Miss that will keep you busy 24/7 and there are many opportunities to meet people.

I had good friends who didn't rush and they were just as happy as those of us who did. I'm saying this sincerely.

College years at Ole Miss and in Oxford are going to be the best years of your life, Greek or not. The very best. Enjoy it. If you don't go Greek, you can still hang out with friends of yours that are. I know I'm not saying this the way I want to. I just want you all to know you are special, and what ever happens it's going to be ok. I promise you. It will be ok. There may be a few days of disappointment, but then you go right back out there and get to know life at Ole Miss, and considering you've been there some time, you've already met the people who very well may be the ones you will still keep in touch with 30 years later. Greek or not.

I wish you all the best!!!
