Pledge classes will be much smaller...Variable quota will be like 75-80; 105-110; 130 and up...things will start to even out this year.

Football team and probation mean less students.

This year's freshman class is even bigger than last year's and the overall undergraduate enrollment is the highest it's ever been. Clearly the football team has no effect on the number of students who go here. Must be some other reason.

To @notreally-

Could be related to several things.

1) Tuition went up for both in-state and OOS so maybe it has become a stretch financially for some girls to join a house.
2) Not sure if this relates, but there are slightly fewer OOS students in the freshman class. Still a bit more than in-state students but not by as much as in past years. So perhaps some of the increased numbers every year in the past were due to OOS girls.

And yes overall enrollment is higher than ever but clearly there are some factors contributing to this small drop. The interesting thing will be if the trend continues.

My sister is on her school's Panhellenic council and they are super worried about a "Penn State effect" taking hold at their big, northern school. Parents not wanting to let their children rush/not wanting to pay their children's dues because of safety concerns. They have winter recruitment so they're still waiting to see what their numbers are like.

I know we're very far from Pennsylvania but it's possible OOS girls aren't rushing because their parent's won't let them.

with focus on enrolling higher-quality students some of them may not be as interested in sororities in the past. Would be interesting to see what the % of pnm's out of all freshman women has tracked over time, assuming the upper class participation is negligible.

I think those pledge classes sound like way better numbers- more reflective of the pledge classes at other SEC schools. 75-85 is ideal for really bonding and getting to know your entire pledge class, and honestly even up to 100 or so is fine, but when you keep taking pledge classes of 140-150 girls, its really difficult to maintain the closeness. Hope we can stay this way!

Pledge classes need to be smaller and maybe this is a trend.

Be about 20% less bid to XO, DDD and KG.

To @reb

I think she means that because of fewer PNMs, those houses will take even smaller pledge classes since variable quota is set up to even out the house sizes. They took less than other houses last year since they were/are already the biggest chapters.

I think .you're right. Think it means fewer PNMs will mean less than 300 girls will get a top tier bid.
