I am not going to name houses at all.... but I can tell you I knew about a dozen girls last year with houses they loved and houses they cared nothing about who got their second choice and now absolutely love it!!!! Sometimes your second choice is the best thing that could ever happen to you.

Im not going to say who I preffed but I did not get my first choice and yes I was the S_T-Head that was crying on bid-day, being a B_tch and basically probably ruing it for those people in my pledge class who this house WAS their first choice. I actually cringe at myself now- I can not imagine being in any other house, I am in love with my letters and my sisters and am soooooo happy I gave the house a shot.

A couple of things to remember if you don't get your first house- you got the house that WANTED YOU. You were FIRST for them and at the end of the day thats what should matter most- why would you want to be in a house that didn't have you on their first list.... you are NOT better than any house on this campus.

Second- don't be the B_TCH that ruins it for everyone else- just because it wasn't your first house doesn't mean it wasn't someone elses- be gracious, show up, try to find someone you like and trust me with pledge classes the size they are if you can't find a group of girls to hang with problem aint them its you

Finally- GIVE IT A SHOT- and by giving it a shot I mean honestly TRY don't just go through the motions... fake it til you make it and act like there is no place you would rather be- showing up and participating and getting to know your house.

If you do these things I bet you will end up like me and eventually wonder why you even wanted the other house... nothing to see there except what they wanted you to see- your house is where you belong and its the best.

Good Luck!

I was another one who didn't get their first pref choice. I was heartbroken and I will admit I didn't put much effort into my sorority during my Freshman year. I have no idea why I felt the way I did because the next year I really enjoyed getting to know my sisters. I should (hopefully) graduate this next year and I wouldn't trade my sisters for any other couple of people anywhere.

I preffed phi mu and chi o and I'm in one of these chapters. I would have been happy to run home to either and often wonder what it would be like if I was in the other house. Pref was really hard for me and I was so torn. That's totally okay.

I did not get my first choice and almost didn't accept my bid. I was upset to be honest and in tears because I thought it meant no one liked me or some crap like that. Now I see it was more about numbers of girls houses take and number of members who knew me vs. knew other girls. I won't lie. It took me a while to come to my senses, but my parents strongly encouraged me to show up at the house and give it a shot. I'm glad I did now. You lose nothing by showing up on bid day even if your bid is to a sorority you didn't plan to join. Show up, try to put on at least a neutral expression (please try not to cry in their faces), and see what the day is like. I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised and make some friends. I went through rush only wanted a few houses and when I didn't get one, I realized I set myself up for disappointment. I really wish someone had told me to be open minded and kind rather than overly critical.

Did get my pref first choice, but tbh neither house I preffed were houses I went into Recruitment wanting, or thinking I would have for pref. Lots of girls have disappointments during Recruitment, for me it was being dropped after Round 1 by a house I was sure I would pref. I really tried to be open-minded to possibilities I hadn't considered and I am so thankful bc I love my house and being Greek.
