Beyond a sorority needing $$$ to colonize here, the challenge will be that as more and more girls go through recruitment, the need for new sororities will escalate faster - and even if you have something like 18 or 20 chapters, you still are having huge chapters. Look at Alabama - they have 22 chapters, most of which have huge numbers.

I personally think having 350-400 girls in a house defeats the purpose of a sorority - hard to have a really tight sisterhood with those numbers. Because Theta has a smaller chapter (about 250?), many girls say they have a closer sisterhood.

And there is also the issue of land for new houses. Maybe a sorority could buy the Zeta house from OM, then tear ir down and rebuild, although the lot isn't that big. Otherwise maybe the parking lot across from Chi O could be used, but that's still only a few places.

has 16 chapters, not 22. And they have over 2,000 girls going through rush. We don't have as many girls because our university is not as big as theirs.

I meant to say the "old" Zeta house which is between DG and Kappa.

Maybe Sigma Kappa. They have a fairly decent presence at several US campuses. I know they're pretty good at Georgia for example. But it's a huge $$ investment.

it will for sure be either AXO, Zeta, DZ, AGD, or Gamma Phi Beta

They are the largest sorority names without chapters here. depends though if Zeta and DZ would be allowed back.

Agree that it would be one of those houses - not Sigma Kappa as someone else suggested. It's not nearly as strong nationally as the sororities you listed although I don't think AGD is strong nationally, at least not compared to AXO, Zeta, DZ and Gamma Phi.

Zeta presented at OM a few years ago and Alpha Phi was chosen over them...which says a lot, I think, when you consider that they used to be here. I heard, from someone involved with Panhellenic then, that Alpha Phi's presentation was super impressive, more so than Zeta's.

Personally I think the most likely choice could be AXO - super strong at 'Bama so you'd likely have alums in this area to support the house, great girls to help rush and a strong national.

AXO would be a welcome addition. Have to see how Alpha Phi and ADPI before adding a third one.

You're right. Ole Miss won't add houses until and unless all of the houses are thriving. Also fewer students are going through recruitment this year. Chapters need to consistently be at quota before the university would even consider interviewing new sororities to colonize. Ole Miss is home to outstanding national sororities and all the houses rise or sink together, despite the backbiting you see on this site.

To rebelette - how many fewer PNMs are going through this year?

Honestly, I've heard around a 100 fewer but I may be wrong. We're not talking a huge drop but it's still significant in my mind. We should see official numbers soon. Others may have them.

To rebelette (again)

Any ideas why the numbers dropped? 100 isn't a lot but in the bigger picture - that the numbers have increased a lot each year in past years - it is significant as you say. I know that State's number of PNMs also dropped this year and while their Greek system isn't as big as OM, it is interesting that both schools saw a drop.

Will be interesting to see if this continues.
