Should freshman be at fraternity parties or should they go to the bars on the square? Also are they bars strict on being 21?

Freshman should stick to frat parties. You will meet a lot of their people in your year that way

There’s a few “freshman” bars on the square (the Levee, the Annex) but the other 21 bars will check an ID and let you in even if it’s clearly fake, depending on the bouncer. Even though most freshman are still thriving at the levee, it’s not a night on the square without a bunch of loud, clearly too drunk freshman taking over Harrison’s or roosters, the “upperclassmen” bars. Frat parties are for every grade, but freshman probably attend the most, as it’s an easy way to meet people, especially late nights.
