There was a mother who would jog when her daughter was going through and tell her to put on lip gloss or do this and that. They had to outlaw cell phones because of the mothers calling and texting.

Don't mess with Mama Bear! 2 years after the fact, my friend discovered her mom got revenge on her awful, psycho freshman roommate who was talking bad about her behind her back and online (though the roommate blogger never named my friend but it was obvious..lol). The mean girl roommate also made a bunch of rude comments on her blog about lower tier sororities (she was mid tier). The mom copied all that stuff from the internet and sent it anonymously to her sorority which was oblivious to her mean ways...until that moment. It almost cost the bad girl her initiation!

OMG I thought this was going to start defending the crazy moms and go on and on about how you've dreamed all your life about seeing your little girl in your letters and how you wouldn't dream of missing it or some such thing.

I can't get over the cookie thing. I would never have thought of it, but if I had even dreamed of it my daughter would've killed me!

I wouldn't be able to go through Rush if my Mom did that. Did she get a bid?

I do not remeber where the girl ended up or if she received a bid anywhere but I remeber that my chapter did not judge her for her mom's actions. When the cookies were delivered, it was clear that they were from the mother

I can't believe the mom did that, and can only imagine how awful that was, but at least she didn't send them to the Frats as well, I guess.

No but I know my mom was here in the late 80's and she said that the only mom she ever heard of showing up was her freshman (rush) year when a girl on her halls mom came storming into the dorm yelling at her daughter that she WOULD PLEDGE her legacy house and there would be no more discussion about it (so there you go a crazy mom story)

however, she said she felt very pressured last year to come for bid day (she didn't and people made her feel bad about it)- and also felt pressured to send me a bid day basket and gifts.

It was a special day and it was fun to get to share it with my parents. I wasn't with them for very long, but they took pictures/videos that I probably never would've gotten if they weren't there tbh lol. but my mom came up a few days early and it was nice to get to go to dinner with her and just get away from the dorms for a little bit. I can understand how people think it's over the top and honestly it probably is (especially the hundreds of dollars dropped on good luck gifts and bid day baskets... we didn't do that). But if it's not a problem for them to come, it is refreshing to see your parents after such a long week.

I WANTED my mom to come and stay last year but she told me that if I was old enough to go to college then I was old enough to go through rush by myself that learning how to handle the stress, disappointment and making a tough decision was all part of growing up. It made me sad to see some of my friends with their moms, but in the end mine was right- she was very supportive of me from a far. I had a hard time during rush but I also learned that I could handle failing without my parents and I honestly think had she been around I would have felt more pressure to join her house that I didn't really like then I already did. She was disappointed of course, but happy for me as well and yes she did send me a whole bunch of stuff in my new colors and letters after bid-day that was probably over the top- ha ha ha ha ha ha- but it made me happy.

I was in a sorority at a different college. I told my daughter that it made no difference to me if she pledged my house or not. She didn't. If she had pledged my house I probably would have come up for bid day because I was told a lot of mom's do that, even though it wasn't the norm back in the 80's. I did not come for bid day and she didn't care but I did send a basket.

Oh look! It's another 80's Mom!

And the mamas burn up the phone line back to the hometowns and get half of it wrong and stir up a bunch of lies

Well that's kind of sad.
