Slim to none. I'd like to call myself an exception because I actually knew no one and I'm in one of these chapters. I had letters of recommendation that must have stood out or thsy girls in my chapter just really liked talking to me. I didn't even think I'd be in my chapter bc I didn't know anyone and I'm from Texas. Truth be told - it's hard to get into both without connections but it can be done. If it feels right then you will run home to one of these houses on bid day. You have to make a lasting impression on the actives tht pick you up. Don't be afraid to control the conversation, after all these girls are trying to see if you could fit into their chapter. Connect with your active about one thing that you could talk about for hours. For me it was how we both had never been anywhere outside the country and I ended up talking most of the time about cool places I'd been in the US. The conversation was memorable and deeply personal. You have to show a good balance if you want to have a successful recruitment regardless.

Honestly, KD, DDD, and Chi-O have already selected their pledge class. Formal recruitment is just a formality for these three. The majority of the girls will be Mississippi/Memphis Ole Miss legacies who attended the Spring parties. The ones who are not chosen tend to go DG or Kappa. If you are an OOS you will want to consider the OOS sororities.

It's connections, not location. Location just fuels the connections.
Why a lack of connections makes a house middle or low tier is so odd to me.
You'll hear old moms and alums talking in horror about how connections guarantee quality because you personally know the girls or the families or whatever. Otherwise the girl is a "risk." Her resume may be great and she may have a strong rec letter from outside of Ole Miss, but they don't "really know" her. A girl from CT or the Bay Area couldn't possibly be intelligent, articulate, attractive, involved, have good values and be an overall good person. And even if they do, they still are not worthy.
Like I said - bizarre. And incredibly limiting.

For top tier houses I'd say connections are 99% of rush. For mid tier they're important but not as high. Lower tier houses are where connections don't play a role.
