Slim to none. I'd like to call myself an exception because I actually knew no one and I'm in one of these chapters. I had letters of recommendation that must have stood out or thsy girls in my chapter just really liked talking to me. I didn't even think I'd be in my chapter bc I didn't know anyone and I'm from Texas. Truth be told - it's hard to get into both without connections but it can be done. If it feels right then you will run home to one of these houses on bid day. You have to make a lasting impression on the actives tht pick you up. Don't be afraid to control the conversation, after all these girls are trying to see if you could fit into their chapter. Connect with your active about one thing that you could talk about for hours. For me it was how we both had never been anywhere outside the country and I ended up talking most of the time about cool places I'd been in the US. The conversation was memorable and deeply personal. You have to show a good balance if you want to have a successful recruitment regardless.

it's pretty tough, they usually already know who they want.

What makes the chances of ddd or kd unlikely isn't being OOS, it is not having any connections.

Most of my friends in either ddd or kd are OOS, but each one of them had Ole Miss ddd or kd connections.

Connections are 95% of Rush.

For top tier houses I'd say connections are 99% of rush. For mid tier they're important but not as high. Lower tier houses are where connections don't play a role.

It depends on connections. KD and DDD both have OOS students but they usually have strong Ole Miss legacy connections. Variable Quota also makes both of these sororitys more exclusive.

Honestly, KD, DDD, and Chi-O have already selected their pledge class. Formal recruitment is just a formality for these three. The majority of the girls will be Mississippi/Memphis Ole Miss legacies who attended the Spring parties. The ones who are not chosen tend to go DG or Kappa. If you are an OOS you will want to consider the OOS sororities.

Which houses are OOS? And which ones can you actually get in with no connections?

Not true...Kappa and DG have their list also. They have their towns and girls they want. Better watch out for DG with that new house. Liable to smoke all of you.

Kappa and DG probably do have their list already but they will go after the same Mississippi/Memphis girls that KD, DDD and Chi-O are going for. So they end up with the ones who are cut from the top three. DG also goes for the cheerleaders, probably because they think it makes them popular (kind of like high school).

As previously mentioned, ddd, kd, xo have already selected at least 95% of their pledge class.

All houses, except ddd, kd, xo accept lots of OOS.

dg might be hard without connections, they rest are possible.

It's connections, not location. Location just fuels the connections.

Why a lack of connections makes a house middle or low tier is so odd to me.

You'll hear old moms and alums talking in horror about how connections guarantee quality because you personally know the girls or the families or whatever. Otherwise the girl is a "risk." Her resume may be great and she may have a strong rec letter from outside of Ole Miss, but they don't "really know" her. A girl from CT or the Bay Area couldn't possibly be intelligent, articulate, attractive, involved, have good values and be an overall good person. And even if they do, they still are not worthy.

Like I said - bizarre. And incredibly limiting.

It's just the Mississippi way of keeping it in the family. Personally it doesn't bother me if girls who went to high school together want to stay together in their college sorority, but it doesn't make them more special than OOS girls.

it honestly depends on who you know but I know a lot of girls who went to both for pref and were way out of state. I do not know of their connections but nothing is impossible
