transfer
by: CuriousI might transfer in the fall and I go to a big southern school but I'm originally from the north. Can someone describe IU to me like socially and academically? How's the Greek life too?! Thank you

All the "cool" kids and douchebags from their Indiana high school go here. Some are reasonably smart but I've also run into students who don't know how to write an outline let alone a paper. The "brains" of indiana high schools go to Purdue. These same students, myself included, go Greek and they take their exact same social clique into their sororities and fraternities with them. You will have a hard time getting a bid as a transfer unless you are exceptionally beautiful and/or know a lot of people. Greeks and geeds don't especially like each other and tend to do their own things. Greek life is focused more so on drinking and joining up than brotherhood/sisterhood.

IU greeklife is horrible. Everyone is ridiculously judgemental of what house you're in and legit only care about image. People refuse to branch out of their typical relations and never want to meet new people. Overall, it's the least welcoming community you could ever imagine, and then some.

This is true to some extent. It is very difficult to break into the social scene if you aren't from Indy, Chicago, or New York, and a lot of these people have egos through the roof. However, that being said, there are definitely plenty of smart people here, and not everyone in Greek life is douchey and obsessed with drinking although it is quite common. Either way you'll find a house that fits you, but no doubt it will be difficult to get bidded as a transfer.
