2016 recruitment
by: MPI will be a freshman this fall and am going to rush for a sorority after Christmas. What are some of the best ones to rush and how easy are they to get a bid from?

I know you're not trying to be snotty, but your answer just reinforces that more girls need to listen to the point that "well" was trying to get across. Sometimes, having a choice is the worst thing that could happen to you during rush. You could rank all the bottom houses low after 22/16 party, then make it to pref with 3 top houses.... And no bid. That scenario happens to tons of girls every year. There's hundreds of girls at IU who are cute/social/smart and would easily get a bid at another school that don't here.
By saying "I don't think I'll have a problem" and that you'll have a choice when it comes to where you end up you're implying that you're in the top 5-10% of the 2000 girls going through rush. For everyone else, Rush is a game of luck and numbers where the best thing you can do is stay positive and keep an open mind.
But if that's not what you wanted to hear: scroll back a few pages and you'll see the tier rankings. Top and upper middle are very very hard to get into without connections and looks. Everywhere else is also very difficult, but more attainable for the average girl who's cute and has social skills. Good luck.

I agree with the comment before mine. PNMs really don't have a choice when it comes to rush. I rushed as a sophomore and after 22 party, I cut all the bottom houses and unhoused ones (not because they're bottom, but because I couldn't see myself fitting in). I ended up getting full lists back every single round and ended up with a great 9 party list (Pi phi, aphi, zeta, gphi, dz, axo, kappa, kd, and dg). I put down my top three and when I saw what houses invited me back for 3 party, only one out of my top three was on the list. Luckily, I ended up in that chapter but what I'm trying to say is that your rush experience could change at any minute and it's really not in your control at all what happens.
I realized after rush that I would have been lucky to get a bid to any 22 of the chapters here and that a lot of great girls were cut entirely.

I agree with you. Yes rushees have some choices but don't be naive. If a sorority doesn't want you, you don't get them, no matter what. Get real.

I don't think I will have a problem not be snotty but thanks for ur advice. Fyi yes they pick you but you get to pick your tops ones if you get that far. That's what the question was lol
