Sorority and Fraternity Cliques
by: Truth
So much false crap on here about actual dynamics in Greek life.
Truth: You aren't going to love everyone in your fraternity or sorority; it's like a bell curve - on the left side is a handful of members you absolutely can't stand, in the middle is most of the chapter that you are just fine and friendly with and like to different degrees, and on the right side is the handful of people you absolutely love and respect and that you will be close to for life. Finding your group of 3-5 best friends is what greek membership is all about. This doesn't mean that different groups are at war with each other, you all share the same letters and find a way to get along like adults.
Any close friend group can be considered a 'clique' in a bad sense by an insecure jealous person not in it. But in a large group, especially with sororities being a couple hundred members, every chapter member finds their close friend group. It's only natural and happens in every fraternity and sorority at a certain size. If you can't handle this dynamic then consider one of the smaller chapters. There is something for everyone.

This is so true, and a lot of members have good friends in other chapters. I have some girlfriends I love in different sororities than mine who I met through my guy friends. I have clicked with people outside my sorority from my major who I see in most of my classes, people in other campus organizations I am active in, some guys in different fraternities. You are not locked in and Greek life helps you meet lots of different people across groups, not just your own house. This is another reason why tiers are pretty fake. It's not your letters that make you it's your own personality and friendships.
