COB/Informal Recruitment

Probably not, most years it's just DPhiE, TPA and ASA doing COB and a couple of decent to good chapters who need to take two or three girls because new members couldn't pay their new member fees and drop.

Not worth it, not enough houses participate

Depends! COB right after formal recruitment (like now) is mostly for chapters to get an extra 5 girls that they wanted for formal recruitment but that didn’t make the GPA cut or slipped through the cracks. If you didn’t rush, your chances of getting invited to COB are pretty slim to none. Your “only”/more likely shot would be to go for the bottom houses such as DPHIE, TPA and ASA that always do COB because they can never get full pledge classes through formal recruitment.

If you try COB in the Fall, you’d have more chances but you also won’t know which houses are doing COB until Fall semester starts so it’s a shot in the dark. My advice is find a way to befriend girls in sororities (if ur a freshman befriend girls who just rushed and will be sorority members by the Fall), and they can put in a good word for you when the time comes
