first round of recruitment

Definitely grades, that’s when most of the cuts happen. Since houses have a minimum GPA to be allowed to initiate a new member, they’re unfortunately forced to drop anyone below that number because there’s no point in keeping them around if ultimately even if they got a bid, they wouldn’t be allowed to get initiated :(

This is not true, but very rarely. Houses will have the requirement so that they can drop lots of girls they didn’t vibe with in the beginning without providing explanation. If you are the kind of girl every sorority wants and made a lasting impression, you will be invited back no matter what your GPA is. If they think you would be a good friend and addition to the house, grades will not impact your cuts. You do, however, need a personality and memorable face. Speaking from personal experience, I bid to a strictly 3.0 sorority with a 2.8 with no upperclassman connections my freshman year to help me out, but I only observed 3-4 others who did so as well. So in this situation, you really must stand out.
