The truth about sorority hazing
by: 🎓
If you’re a PNM going through recruitment in Jan and worried about hazing, this is for you.
IU is not like southern schools, people don’t take sororities, tradition, legacy and whatnot as serious here. Although most sororities on campus have been here for over 100 years, I’d say from 10 yrs ago - now a LOT has changed. Many sororities have gotten in trouble with the school over the years about hazing (the school has a very wide definition of hazing so a lot fits the umbrella even if it’s not a big deal), and have gone through extensive changes to be allowed to stay on campus. IU particularly isnt very fond of greek life and doesn’t tend to turn a blind eye to any situation. So, if you’re worried, you should really just keep an eye out for a few sororities out of the 22 on campus. I would say keep an eye out for Pi Phi, Alpha Phi, and Kappa. You really have no reason to worry about the other 19.

so the 3 sororities that haze are also the ones that are considered widely "top-tier"?
how could they stay at the top for so many years if they have the worst retention rates on campus and members complaining about their sisterhood?
organizations don't just become top-tier or stay at the top during pref rounds if any of what you ppl have mentioned is true - no girl is going to want to join a sorority with declining house numbers, or upperclassmen pledge classes with little-to-no active members remaining.
let alone the complaints about the sisterhood - since there would be no sisterhood if they have had the worst retention rates on campus for the past couple of years.
something just isn't adding up here - can anyone else comply?

I think IU has a long way to go with sorority hazing. I agree that it’s not as good as southern schools, and I think greek life at IU as a whole needs to take the necessary steps to make sure it gets to the southern school level. That is how REAL sisterhood is achieved!!

Kappa has one of the worst sisterhoods I have ever witnessed. The amount of humiliation, screaming, aggression, bullying and verbal abuse those girls have the audacity to perpetrate is mind blowing. It would take a LOT to get rid of the toxicity in that house, and honestly their nationals should have shut them down
