IU Sororities Have More Potential Than This

If you're in a sorority at IU chances are that you've heard about or seen Alabama Rush Tok. It's huge, everyone is talking about it, it even made the news. Here's the thing: IU actually has more sororities than Alabama. We have 22, they have 18. IU has one of the biggest greek lives in the country. Also the number of PNMs going through recruitment at Alabama is only slightly more than what we get at IU. So why is IU not as hype?

Yes, I know we're not in the South. But we're still probably one of the biggest greek life schools in the Big 10 and in the Midwest in general. Most sororities at IU have been here for over 100 years.

My conclusion is that PHA does not let IU rush and sorority life live up to the hype we could have and the potential we have to actually be a better greek life school. When I watch Alabama rush tiktoks I can see a CLEAR difference between houses, in their personalities, who they're looking for, what kind of member and values they have, etc. PHA at IU has imposed so many rules to make all sororities appear "equal" that each house's uniqueness and personality doesn't shine through. From banning decorations, to banning promo videos, to banning outfits, backgrounds, videos, and more. You're telling me we have 22 different sororities here and they want us to all look the same? Come on. For what?

If PHA stopped being so controlling, supported sororities instead of trying to run them, supported our differences and uniqueness, and gave us more liberty to be ourselves, we could all have better experiences and an overall cooler greek life. It seems like such a waste to have such a big community here, and at the same time be pretty much irrelevant.
