Does anyone else not like their house?

by:

im starting to dislike my sorority so much. i originally joined mine thinking it was gonna be the time of my life, especially cause we are upper mid but since living in i just don’t feel the same anymore. all i see is fake people around me. All the girls I talk to our friendships are so superficial. we’re more party friends than anything. maybe that’s a theme for a lot of houses, where most “friendships” are nothing more than a hey what’s up when we last each other. but I just feel alone and needed to put this out somewhere. anyone else going through this? Srat or frat?

I’ve felt like this for a long time as well. It feels really refreshing to read that I’m not alone. I know how it can be tough especially when you feel like you don’t really have other options.

If anyone wants to talk to me about it text me at (615) 982-4276

I’m in a good house, but the brotherhood is not as strong as it could be tbh. I have like 1-2 good friends but every other relationship is superficial. Not more than a passing hey. I felt closer to my dorm mates last year tbh. I think IU Greek life is too toxic, too big and the new member process is too weak to build those bonds thst made fraternities relationships last a lifetime. My dsd still has a GC with his guys from the 80’s, whereas I doubt I’ll be talk to 80% of these dudes post college. It’s not like they’re bad dudes, it’s just hard to make friends with these big ass PCs let alone huge ass chapter.

I don’t think it’s a place to find meaningful relationships. Everyone says they want to be part of a brotherhood but they don’t really. It is just an outlet for partying. If your in the inside group of a fraternity or make the decisions your prob gonna be friends with the guys you make decisions with. The rest of us feel outcasted subordinates who are only included in stuff because we pay dues.

I think a huge cause of this is how your fraternity does pledgeship. I am in a lower or mid fraternity and when I rushed 2 years ago it really wasn’t super difficult, but every person in the PC was super close and actually made friendships because our pledgeship was more focused on accountability, trust, and hard work. Fast forward to this semester, my house’s pledgeship has gotten much harder and I can already see that some of these pledges don’t even like eachother that much and have already formed cliques. Kinda sad to see but it happens i guess.
