snap bids and informal
by: Curious
How many of you dropped formal recruitment because you weren’t sure of your bottom two, and ended up with a house you we’re happy with through snap bids or informal? And how many just never joined the Greek system because they drop?
If I have a chance for a better house I want to drop now. But indefinitely want to be somewhere.
Do I contact people I know in houses to let them know I dropped formal and am open for snap bids and informal?

I know a girl from my floor freshman year who dropped and was offered a snap bid to zeta (she was dropped from them after 16). Most houses give like 1 or 2 snap bids, so if you know girls in the house that really helps. Other houses contact girls they had and dropped. agd almost always does informal

I would reach out to the friends you know and see if their house is legit about snap bids before dropping out. Especially if you are close with her and feel like she would genuinely help you get one. I know my house doesn’t normally do snap bids but I’ve heard a lot of houses make exceptions.

I dropped out of recruitment and joined a house through informal I could’ve just stayed in recruitment for. You’re not going to get a snapbid from any house other than bottom four so if you don’t want to be a geed then go to your rounds and at least try it out. I promise you’ll regret dropping when you don’t see a single one of your Greek friends for the rest of the year

Truthfully, snaps/cobs are very rare and u shouldn’t bank on them. Informal will only happen openly for a couple of lower tier chapters, but almost every house is able to take a full pc through formal and won’t need to. I’d either stick it out or u can wait a year and rerush. I rushed again as a sophomore and ended up in a solid middle tier chapter that I love. I’m glad I tried again, but know that a lot of houses, especially top tier ones will drop sophomores early on because ultimately they want freshmen. Also, if a lot of your friends now join chapters you probably won’t see them much anymore if you don’t also join one. It’s a lot to think about, but do what you feel is right for you.

This is the exception not the rule. Most chapters who offer their 1 or 2 snap bids already know who they want to snap. It's usually someone who is friends with a girl in the chapter and was released because that chapter could only invite a a low number to the next round. Between philanthropy and sisterhood, some chapters have to release 50% of the women they had.
Most chapters will NOT be offering snap bids and if they do, you most likely will not be offered one.
If you are dropping and hoping for informal, your options there are limited to 5 or 6 chapters which you may have some of them already.
