unhoused sororities?

by:

I’m seriously considering one of the unhoused sororities but I’m afraid it won’t be the same experience. I’ve liked the girls I talked to in both chapters but I don’t know if they’ll have the same social life or sisterhood since they’re not all in one house. Does any one else have genuine opinions about the two unhoused chapters/are you considering them??

I would think housed and unhoused you get what you put into it. But mostly wait until you get your next list?

There are MANY campuses around the country that don't have ANY sorority houses. On those campuses, sororities thrive and the women are happy. There are many ways to make connections besides living in just one house. There are actually benefits to NOT living together. (There are less strict rules, you have some space to get away when you need down time, less expensive, etc). You can still have an absolutely great sorority experience without having a house. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this too. I’m leaning towards going unhoused because the pros seem to outweigh the cons. You can choose where you live, who you live with, how many roommates you have, no rules about alcohol in your house, boys can sleep over

A house is a building. It cannot create friendships or closer bonds. Go where you feel most welcome, and those things will happen naturally

This is so true. You live in a house 1 or 2 years typically. It's a building. You can still form great relationships without being in the same building all the time. You'll remember and love the women you met not the house you lived in.

One good thing about unhoused sororities is that they are less expensive. No housing fees! Something to think about if cost is an issue

If you are the type of person who is secure then this is a great option. I am in a top tier and from experience the house doesn’t matter or change you. If you are insecure before rush, being in a top tier won’t make you any happier

coming from a chapter that was unhoused then housed i can tell you that it definitely is different and way more easier to get to know people with a house. you CAN get the same relationships unhoused but you have to put a lot more work into it

Because they don't have a house, inhouse chapters make the effort to spend time together. ASA won a sisterhood award, pretty big since they don't all live together. There are plenty of official and unofficial events where girls get together. It may be movie nights, watching a tv show together, getting together before pairs, meeting up to study during the day - if you put effort in, you'll make friends.

i am currently in an unhoused chapter and i absolutely love it. i love that i am able to live where i want, with who i want, eat what and when i want, have pets, have overnight guests, have parties, and i can have alone time when i need it. being unhoused isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. the great thing about the unhoused chapters here is that they both are offering housing plans so new members can live with sisters but still have their space. unhoused still has all the things housed chapters do. we have formals, pairs, sisterhood events, bachelor night. when you go through sisterhood round, definitely ask about that chapters sisterhood so you can can a better sense of what it’s like in each chapter.
