by: Froshgirl

If you have a 2.8 how much does gpa matter during recruitment?

I had a 2.8 gpa last year and got dropped from most of the houses I liked. I had a few left just limits your choices cause a lot of houses want a 3.0 gpa

You’ll have to send your final transcript to your rho gam after your final grades are put in! They’ll let you know sometime after Christmas if you didn’t meet the requirement, but you’ll already know if you did or not by looking at your transcript. If you don’t make a 2.8, you can try and appeal it but your choices for houses will be much slimmer!

don't even bother rushing cuz your GPA is HELLA damn low. Try hitting the books every once in a while

If you're a first semester freshman, you don't even have a GPA yet so this is obviously a troll lmao

But you can estimate what your gpa will be. Prob by someone who thinks they’ll have a 2.8 not by someone who is trolling by asking a legitimate question lmao. For op, your options will be limited with a 2.8 and a 3.0 is as low as you want to be to not be dropped for gpa by any house as a freshman. I’d still go through rush and see if you like where you get in even if you only have a 2.8

Well 2.8 gives you the ability to rush if you don’t have 3.0 there are many houses that may drop you due to not having a 3.0

GPA doesn’t matter if you are rich and have connections to girls in the houses. Especially the “upper tier” ones.

GPA does matter to a lot of houses. Chances are you will only be invited to max 9 after 22 party

When I was a freshman I had transfer credit through IU and I got ~screwed~ on GPA. There are definitely houses that use it as a defining cut line and some that don't. I can't speak on every chapter but I know ADPi's is very strict due to their standings. Other chapters DGAF. Good Luck. If you really feel you were cut from houses first round that could have been good fits (read: A LOT not just "top tier") drop and try again next year. If you want to roll the dice keep trying the houses you're left with and decide by bid night. Also pro tip: "top tier" chapters don't usually cut by GPA so if you didn't make a DZ/Aphi/Pi Phi level cut it's not because of your GPA.

GPA doesn’t matter I had a 2.9 and did not get dropped by any houses

A 2.9 is enough for you to not be cut by about 2/3 of the houses but a 2.8 gpa means you WILL be cut by about 2/3 of the houses after first round. Yes you’ll still have some options but you’ll go to like 13-14 houses that will just automatically cut you whether they loved you or hated you. This post asks about a 2.8 not 2.9 which are actually very different circumstances

the chapter gpa is required to be a 3.2 or higher according to panhel bylaws so a lot of the chapters that are either close to that or even below that will probably drop you based on gpa because they don’t want to be sent to honors board.
