advice to freshmen girls

by: Yep

DO NOT go to frats first semester. You can and will be blacklisted. This has always been a rule at iu.
Don’t get with older guys. You will be blacklisted.
Go to philanthropy events that sororities hold. They want to meet you.
You can go to stacks (a bar), but don’t make a fool of yourself. This is probably where you’ll spend most of your weekends first semester.
Second semester is 1000 times better than first semester, so just hang in there. You’ll have your time to have fun.
Focus on grades- sororities care a lot about that. Most houses don’t take anyone with under a 3.0, and you can’t rush with under a 2.8
Get involved first semester so you have things to talk about during rush

This is bull crap. I know girls who went to frats all first semester and got into what people here call a top tier sorority. Also the gpa is bull crap too. Al girl in my dorm didn’t even make GPA to go through rush but somehow ended up in another “top tier” sorority. If they want you you will get in!!!!!

for sororities you have to submit your gpa before rush so yes, you will not be able to rush if you do not meet the gpa requirement and do not count on an appeal because those are rare. maybe instead of going out first semester just stay in and study...

There are chapters that really care about GPA and will adhere strictly to those high standards. These include: ADPi, AOPi, Theta and Phi Mu etc. Chapters that are dead last in GPA rankings like: APhi, Pi Phi, Kappa and Chi O won't care as much. However, with Chi O nationals running the show this will likely change for them. So, keep that in mind also. If you are a party girl and not really in school for your grades, you can find your people at some of the chapters with low academic standards. Don't gain an ounce, but your GPA isn't important.
