open letter to kathy riester

Kathy,

Are you a member of a Greek letter organization? (Not were you, mind you, but are you?) If so, awesome; make the effort to work on our behalf instead of against us. Be willing to hear us out when we say that we want change to occur in IU’s Greek system. As the Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs, you (along with President McRobbie & the other folks in adminstration) share the responsibility of how to handle IU’s GLOs whenever they get into trouble, perceived or real.

Let’s face it: not everyone in IU’s GLOs is an irresponsible bunch of degenerates. Conversely, not everyone in those same GLOs is a bunch of classless degenerates. A vast majority of Greeks at IU are striving to make their Greek system better, so don’t assume differently. Don’t think that we’re subversive when we say that we want fairer treatment from administration. Please try to realize that you’re castigating the greater Greek community at IU on the actions of a select few who are unhelpful in eradicating the stereotypes which non-Greeks have harbored towards Greeks for years.

Be willing to work with us if you’re a member of a GLO. It’s obvious that McRobbie won’t bother. Don’t ruin Greek life at IU any more than it already has been.

Better than the majority of fraternity men at IU with three months of time on their hand who still haven’t bothered to find a way/make plans to disassociate...better figure something out soon if you want Greek life to continue at BTown
