how important are connections for rushing top houses?

ZBT- DEFF need Connections
Sig Chi- don’t really need connections

I've always heard that sig chi is very exclusive in that if you're not a legacy or you're not close with anyone in sig chi you won't get in.

FIJI—Absolutely need connections. High school, rec from FIJI family friend, IU legacy: brother, son, grandson (once in a while nephew, etc.),
family $$ or social prestige.
FIJI bids nearly their entire pledge class in the spring from weekend invitation events. But they DO pick up a few freshmen in the fall during IFC open houses.

It is weird to think about but statistically speaking the middle tier houses (think SAE, SigEp, and Sig Pi) are actually the most selective frats. They see the highest number of rushes and pretty much all houses take around the same number of kids give or take.

The reason is because some kids don't feel like they can get into a top tier house without connections or whatsoever, so most people rush the middle tier houses thinking they'll have a higher chance based on the tier structuring.

While it is true that there were a ton of kids rushing places like SAE and Sig Pi, there were also hundreds of kids at pi kapps and Sig Chi at rush so....

Yea they probably have more people rushing but they aren’t as selective in terms of connections. I got a bid at One of those houses u mentioned without knowing anyone (didn’t take it). Tbh sae, phi delt, acacia, sig pi, and some other midish their houses are good since it isn’t all about connections when rushing there. They give out more bids to people based off merit and how chill they are rather than “who do you know here” which is nice. Also, these houses are decent socially which makes then good for anyone rushing that doesn’t know many people yet is still really chill.

If you don’t know anyone and you’re not a legacy, helps a lot if you’re good looking/ speak well/ funny and they can tell. It is usually tough to get noticed if don’t already have connections, but definitely still try a day or two. if they’re interested you’ll know

as long as you make a good impression the places you go you should be fine, i know so many weird guys in frats but i lot also know a lot of cool guys and there are some in every frat
