housing issue

by: Just a matter of time

Just so that everyone is aware of the behind the scene discussion. IU/Nationals is holding off in making a decision in the further punishment of removing letters from housing for two - three houses that are having issues at this time. This decision is because they unlike in past years can not offer dorm housing because of the overflow. I would look for a decision to be made over the last couple weeks of class. There are not enough available rentals currently and they do not want the national news over the issue.

They should've thought about that before kicking houses off huh?

Perhaps, IU should try not kicking chapters off for BS charges going forward and actually support its Greek system for a change....nah, they probably won’t do that

I don't buy it. There aren't any more or less students needing housing if a chapter gets kicked. Another unhoused group can just move in then the students that were displaced can take their leases over. I don't think anyone is safe because of IU's mold issue.

Houses chapters are larger than unhoused. More kids moving out then in. This means more kids needing housing than before.

It’s also a longer process to assign a house to a fraternity/sorority than people realize. Just look at the TKE house that has been sitting vacant for over a year now.

Actually the off campus chapters that are currently at IU have leases to landlords that are not University affiliated. They have to finish these leases and the earliest they would be able to move into one of the current on campus houses would be next fall if even then.
With IU having a housing shortage from day one this year turning hall lounges into temporary dorm rooms, utilizing the student union hotel and that along with the mold problem has made it where they can’t accommodate an extra 3-400 students that will be impacted by the houses being shut down and students evicted as in the past.

Really can’t feel sorry for any of the houses that are possibly being removed. There are consequences for actions and sometimes you gotta pay for those. It’s unfortunate because now they have ruined the legacy for all past members. Greek Life is bigger than the current class.

Anyway by doing what they are this will allow the students the opportunity to finish the semester in housing.

The problem is the death penalty. While we have no hard facts, I have to wonder if the punishment fits the crime. My guess is not.
