why do all of you care about tier rankings?

by: Seriously

As an alumni of IU and Greek Life, I always found the tier system stupid. It divided greek life and kept fraternities and sororities from meeting each other. It makes me even more sad that three years later, I'm clicking on this website again and the first post I see is a ranking of sororities and fraternities.

Why do you all still make this a thing? I would have thought by now, no one would care about what sorority or fraternity was "better" or "worse" than the other.

Just an FYI, absolutely none of it matters during the work recruiting process, in an interview, post-grad, or really anything outside of Indiana University. In fact, what most recruiters look at is how involved you got in your organizations and what leadership opportunities you embraced. Also, if you put down on a resume that your sorority/fraternity had a Top 10 GPA on campus, we take that as a sign you came from a good group of driven, hardwowrking students.... and overlook the fact that you could have also partied the most. Good grades matter far more than frat parties.

Please new PNM's and Pledges, do not look too hard into these tiers. What matters is where you make a lifelong group of friends and how you can take those friendships outside of greek life with you. AKA Networking.

A lot of people also hate on IUDM, but when you think about it, it's the only organization that has managed to bring most of Greek Life together. I respect that organization a lot for at least making an effort to bring the campus together. IUSF is another one that does this very well.

The moment Greek Life at IU stops focusing on the things that don't matter (partying, pairing, etc.) will be the moment that Greek Life becomes more respected on IU's Campus.

Make some small steps Greek Life. Break the tier system by pairing with fraternities and sororities outside of your comfort zone. Do a random Little 500 and Homecoming. Start attending other philanthropies. Get behind another organization outside of Greek Life. Make House GPA Goals. Support each other. Stop classifying someone that acts a certain way because they're a "certain organization's letters". Get involved in intramural sports together. Once one of you decides to break the mold, eventually all of you will.

Good luck IU Greek Life!

Based off all of the positive responses from what looks like people in all tiers, this REALLY should be brought to panhel & IFCs attention. I’m tired of pairing with the same few frats
