didn't get a bid. now what?
by: Nobid
Background: Came to IU out of state not knowing a single person. My floor is ass and literally people don't speak to each other so making friends that way wasn't an option. Joined clubs and met people but most of them I didn't like because there are too many socially inept nerds in finance clubs. Made a few close friends I hang out with a lot but still wanted more social life. So I rushed two business frats and managed to get close to getting a bid without knowing anyone in them. Then I rushed social (again didn't know anyone in any houses) but didn't get a bid.
Feeling kinda demoralized but wondering if I should take a chance on an unhoused/off campus frat? Even if I don't like it I can drop after pledgeship, right? Or should I just wait until next semester and rush the same business and social frats again? I'm assuming in the fall it doesn't matter as much if you know people in the frat because everyone is new (freshman) and aren't expected to know people in the house.
Tl;dr
Didn't get a bid at business or social frats so should I rush an off campus/unhoused frat? Is it worth it? Or should I just try again in the fall?

I would recommend coming back in the fall if you’re heart is really in it but you also seem super judgmental and a little too arrogant based off this post. I know lots of guys in houses that knew no one and still got in places through networking, sometimes that nerdy finance kid is roommates with a top tier. Just be more open if you do and don’t sacrifice being in an unhoused if you’re only doing it for reputation. Try to find brothers you vibe with for who you are

I agree with the last post. You sound super judgmental. I came from OOS and pledged both a business frat and a social frat. Pledging both are super competitive and I knew no one in either. But, I didn't go into the process thinking that people were inept nerds or losers. I put myself out there and tried getting to know people. I would recommend that you do a quick attitude adjustment and go for whatever houses are still rushing. Being unhoused does not make for a lesser brotherhood. If you don't like it, you can always try next year. But, I would not expect different results until you get that air of superiority off your shoulder. You are probably a decent buy but this post makes you sound like an a-hole.

Agreed with these two. You need to ground you self a little and be more open there is so many fraternities on campus you will find your fit some where. What you need to do next semester is spread yourself out. A lot of kids suicide rush or only rush ‘top tier’ houses. Being a sophomore check out middle to lower or whereever you fit in. I personally think the tier system is dumb but it is what it is.
