do tiers actually matter that much?

I know that they will never completely get rid of them, that's life. But are the actually that relevant? If I was a girl in a bottom tier house would a guy from an top tier house not even give me the time of day or let me into their party? If so that's just crazy to me. I'm sure there are some cool ass girls in bottom tier houses just like there might be some not so cool girls in top tier. I don't really get it.

The tier system, like it or love it, matters at IU. People in upper houses use it to feel better about themselves and down on lower tier houses. But this is becoming less and less of a thing, and hopefully with each new pledge class for greek life here it continues to fade out. Many people don’t care about it, a few do. It doesn’t necessarily accurately reflect chapters social status as pairs, six ways, quads, etc. are usually within two different tiers or more.

i’m in lower middle house and i’ve never been rejected from getting into a top house party...if you’re in greek life and want to have fun at parties a lot of people are chill with it.
