made a mistake with theta?

by: Worried

I just got a bid to theta last night. All the girls seemed nice all during recruitment and I was excited even though they were my second choice but after I came home my roommate told me about this website and I saw all the posts about how theta ruined greek life and is the reason we can’t have parties. I don’t want to be associated with the house that killed IU’s greek life.....is it too late to drop and get an informal bid from somewhere like AGD or SK?

if you care about having pairs every night you’re better off in AGD or SK, but it’s very unlikely you’ll get a bid to either of them this year. if you’re a freshman you can go through again next year and you’ll be excused from attending theta’s round.

Not true. These girls had nothing to do with that. They were picked for the house because of what a great group of girls they are.

what does this even mean lol? obviously the girls that got bids last night JUST joined so they didn’t kill greek life. that’s not what she’s asking. the other girls that have been in the chapter DID kill greek life and that is a reputation that’s going to haunt them for the next few years.

Just to clarify, they got the old delt house because of what a great group of girls they are. They had nothing to do with the frat problems. A relatively newer sorority. Recently got the house and nicely remodeled. Def an up and coming sorority. Ranked 2nd on Greek Life.

The house that Theda has is the old Delt frat house. Delt is one of the frats that was closed down. That frat AND others all caused the downfall of the IU frats. It was not the Theda girls. You are confusing the girls with the house they are now in. The frats will be "re-opened" by the Little 500.

Yes, I meant Theta

Theta Phi Alpha is in the old delts house. Kappa Alpha Theta is the sorority she is referring to, which is referred to as Theta. TPA had nothing to do w/ ruining greek life, they just took a House. Kappa Alpha Theta snitched on multiple frats simply for having alcohol, like every frat has, which in turn led to them getting less pairs and frats being scrutinized.

to the person commenting with the name real: what the heck dude? not only can you not spell theta correctly, you're confusing theta with tpa.

to break it down, theta = kappa alpha theta, and tpa = theta phi alpha.

i'm sorry but you shouldn't be posting on here. you clearly know nothing and you're just trying to confuse everyone.

You’re right. Theta isn’t well liked by the Greek community right now because they caused all fraternities to go on suspension. They’ll probably not pair very often this semester, but I’ll bet they still get a little 5 pair solely because of how good their bike team is. That’s the best thing they have going for them. Internally they’re extremely cliquey and don’t even seem to like each other.

Don't worry about this theta is a solid chapter. I don't know anyone who dropped there house and didn't regret it later

Ok grandma maybe you were a solid chapter in the past but as of last semester you’re not. Just own up to what you did!

Stop trying to get a freshman girl to rethink her house and drop when you don't even know her or her situation this is absolutely ridiculous. This is trolling that has gone too far. OP, don't base your decisions about your house on this website. You will never end up happy about it if you do

Hey OP, I posted the original topic which I asked about what people honestly thought about Theta! I ended up getting a bid to a different house and I am so happy that I did. I know that you're overwhelmed but here is my honest advice since you probably read my questioned post - I would give it a week or two. Give it a few days to see the glitter and glam of bid day go away. See how the older girls start to treat you and if they are nice to you, AND HOW THEY TREAT EACH OTHER. If the older Thetas aren't nice to you, you still aren't happy, and the new PC isn't nice to you, then drop. But even with the reputation it has right now, there are girls in your PC that may be a lot nicer to each other and you can change the future of that house! But be fair to yourself - your happiness is what's most important at the end of this, and that was what I focused on and found my home somewhere else! Good luck!

It is too late to drop and get a bid from somewhere else. You are bound by your pledge for a year. You can not just jump to another house now. And, don't worry about other orgs pointing the finger at Theta for the problems within the frats. Anyone that is doing so, just wants to push the blame for their problems on someone else and they clearly aren't listening to the news about the deaths and Greek shut downs around the country. If an older sister (clearly not your pc who has only been in for a day and has absolutely nothing to do with this) did address concerns about risky behavior, rather than ditching, you should stand by and support someone that had the courage to try and prevent a tragedy.

That’s not what happened. They reported a fraternity for having alcohol because they wanted revenge on them for not showing up at a pair because theta is boring as fck. Also, every fraternity has alcohol. This was done one hundred percent out of spite. There’s no “rising above” here. They were being mean spirited because they’re unpopular with that house.

And you know this was done out of spite how? Were you there when an alleged report took place? From an outsiders perspective, if a frat invited a bunch of girls over that they didn't like and then didn't show up, seems there is some spite there and blame to go around.

Theta did it to get SNU in trouble. What they didn't realize is that when they did it, it would get them kicked off. There are no heroes in Theta for doing what they did. They were just being petty and it caused 150+ guys and their alumni to lose their chapter at IU.

Agree with this comment 100%. No national is going to pull a charter because someone says that alcohol is being served. Much more to this story than what is being superficially shared. SNu may want to point fingers at someone else, but they should be looking in the mirror.
