made a mistake with theta?
by: WorriedI just got a bid to theta last night. All the girls seemed nice all during recruitment and I was excited even though they were my second choice but after I came home my roommate told me about this website and I saw all the posts about how theta ruined greek life and is the reason we can’t have parties. I don’t want to be associated with the house that killed IU’s greek life.....is it too late to drop and get an informal bid from somewhere like AGD or SK?

You’re right. Theta isn’t well liked by the Greek community right now because they caused all fraternities to go on suspension. They’ll probably not pair very often this semester, but I’ll bet they still get a little 5 pair solely because of how good their bike team is. That’s the best thing they have going for them. Internally they’re extremely cliquey and don’t even seem to like each other.

Hey OP, I posted the original topic which I asked about what people honestly thought about Theta! I ended up getting a bid to a different house and I am so happy that I did. I know that you're overwhelmed but here is my honest advice since you probably read my questioned post - I would give it a week or two. Give it a few days to see the glitter and glam of bid day go away. See how the older girls start to treat you and if they are nice to you, AND HOW THEY TREAT EACH OTHER. If the older Thetas aren't nice to you, you still aren't happy, and the new PC isn't nice to you, then drop. But even with the reputation it has right now, there are girls in your PC that may be a lot nicer to each other and you can change the future of that house! But be fair to yourself - your happiness is what's most important at the end of this, and that was what I focused on and found my home somewhere else! Good luck!

It is too late to drop and get a bid from somewhere else. You are bound by your pledge for a year. You can not just jump to another house now. And, don't worry about other orgs pointing the finger at Theta for the problems within the frats. Anyone that is doing so, just wants to push the blame for their problems on someone else and they clearly aren't listening to the news about the deaths and Greek shut downs around the country. If an older sister (clearly not your pc who has only been in for a day and has absolutely nothing to do with this) did address concerns about risky behavior, rather than ditching, you should stand by and support someone that had the courage to try and prevent a tragedy.

Theta did it to get SNU in trouble. What they didn't realize is that when they did it, it would get them kicked off. There are no heroes in Theta for doing what they did. They were just being petty and it caused 150+ guys and their alumni to lose their chapter at IU.

what does this even mean lol? obviously the girls that got bids last night JUST joined so they didn’t kill greek life. that’s not what she’s asking. the other girls that have been in the chapter DID kill greek life and that is a reputation that’s going to haunt them for the next few years.
